Review Madison Diner - Bainbridge Island

Tara Short
Such a cute piece of history! The food is always so good! They treat you like family. The atmosphere is always pleasant. Amanda (waitress) is wonderful. Just a pleasant sweet soul. Steve the cook is great! A lot of the food is made in house, Brian the prep cook takes such great pride in his work, always makes the BEST biscuits and gravy. You can tell that he really cares about the food and sauces he makes. Trust me, you just have to go and see and taste for your self! Your senses will NOT be disappointed!

Great atmosphere and great service. The food was was good. We had breakfast which is standard breakfast fair. I have the corned beef hash and my wife had the chicken fried steak. Both really good.

Real food - Real good! Friendly, helpful, disabled accessible!!! And we were blown away with how neat and clean the place was for being a retro diner. Nothing greasy spoon and about this gleaming chrome beauty. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Great diner with a retro feel. Everything from traditional eggs n hash browns to creative Benedicts and daily specials. I most recently had the chicken fried steak for the umpteenth time, and my Paleo partner got flash fried brussel sprouts with bacon and an over easy egg which was the special. Both were wonderful. Caring, attentive staff who genuinely seem to like their jobs!

This place is so awesome! Classic diner with super generous hospitality with the beach boys playing in the background! The atmosphere is fantastic and the service was wonderfully attentive. And guess what? The food is superb as well!

Great breakfast, and really wonderful staff. Our waitress explained all the current features and limitations, so we had no disappointments. We appreciated consistent masking and reduced capacity.

The Madison Diner had a very fun and warm atmosphere. The menu had some staples and inventive items. Food was great and will come again next time we are in town.

Hands down best breakfast I have ever had! I had the hash browns with cheddar, scallions, bacon, a biscuit with 2 eggs. Me and my wife shared it and it was more than enough. They use homemade strawberry freezer jam, and the fresh squeezed OJ is stellar! I wish this was closer to where I lived!!! Also, our waitress was hilarious and very helpful!

For a retro experience, the Madison Diner offers old-fashioned booth and counter seating in a 1948 stainless steel dining car. Itโ€™s the kind of place where a โ€œWafflewich!โ€ will call out to you from the menu.

I Keep Returning. If service was half as bad as some describe, I wouldn't keep returning. As a former RR car converted to diner, it can become crowded and it has been crowded whenever I've been there. Crowded can equate to slower service but not unreasonably so. I've found the food is worth waiting for and I haven't been disappointed.

The food is great. Service has never been very good. After seating at the counter on a busy Sunday after half an hour we had to ask where our food was. After 5 more minutes our server without apology blamed the kitchen for loosing our order. She said if we still wanted to eat we'd have it in ten minutes. After I asked about a comp she said there would be a comp. Our server was quite attentive to her boyfriend seated behind us. Probably will stay away on weekends.

Good NW style breakfast. Good value, generous portions so you can save some for later. I had two large cornmeal pancakes, eggs, and what tasted like home made patty sausage. Neat authentic diner built in the 40's and shipped to bainbridge is in the 90's. Service was good.

A classic diner with great food. We have eaten here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is busy but we'll worth the wait. I always eat the pancake combo. It sticks to my ribs and is fabulous!

Awesome burger. I had an awesome mushroom swiss burger there today, best burger I have had in a while, after arriving too late for Cafe Nola, which was a good thing, I think. Nice juicy, made with good quality meat and cooked perfectly. Madison Diner might be a new favourite, they don't close at 3!
Oh, and the cooks are cute! Nice to have some eye-candy to watch while waiting for my food. ;-)

Wait service was a little slow, but they were busy. Nice and polite though, and he food was great. Definitely would go back.

Slow service - actually beyond slow! Empty tables galore and no one bussing or seating. Tables blocking access to bathrooms - so not ADA compliant! With 6 people they added 18% took 30 minutes to get our food - every thing was greasy, waitstaff was slow and not very responsive. Had the swiss-burger - not exceptional - overall not worth your time.

This is the ultimate diner! Was worried after some reviews but tried it on our first visit to the island. It was very busy and we had to wait about 15mi. All of our meals were amazing--they do breakfast to perfection. French toast, thick bacon, pancakes, eggs, hashbrowns. Family ordered the club and French dip sandwiches, they were also amazing. The staff is sweet and very busy so u might have to ask twice but the food and cute train car atmosphere made up for it.

Sloppy with cold meal. After 3 owners and name changes we tried again to like this cute little diner.
Well how do you like the long greasy hair and tattoos preparing dinner? Not much more than I like the too casual servers who were busy chatting with each other.
Ordering that Amrican comfort food staple, Mac and Cheese on a cold night seemed like logic. After a long wait the dish was served ice cold in the middle. It took a long time to get it corrected and the second time around it smelled so badly of something burned I expected the smoke alarm to go off.
This place lacks a manager to train and supervise inexperienced staff.

A Tastey Treat. Just came from The Madison Diner. What a tasty treat. Had the Turkey melt on sourdough. Gooey cheese, grilled onions just to the point of sweetness, bacon firm but not fall apart crunchy and turkey carved just right. A little potato salad on the side and a glass of ice tea. Served by friendly and efficient wat staff.

Highly recommend. Next time it's the hand dipped cholcolate malted!

A bit disfunctional. Service is slow, sometimes confused and the food is often wrong (and not that good).

GF Patty Melt!!!. What an awesome diner! Featured on Diners, Drive Ins & Dives in 2007, this diner has all the personality it seemed too. To top it off, they are VERY savvy on Gluten Free and I enjoyed a patty melt for the 1st time in over 5 years! Warning though - any sandwich you order GF will come as 2 separate sandwiches as Madison Diner realizes the GF bread is smaller, so bring your appetite! I did not get sick and their GF menu is huge!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

A breakfast I now crave daily.. After seeing The Madison Diner on the Food Channel, I always kept this place in mind for my next visit to Bainbridge Island. It was a 2 year wait, but it was well worth it. Having walked from the ferry terminal, I was very pleased to get a large cup of ice water in addition to the large cup of iced tea I ordered. The diner was meticulously clean, and the friendly staff members were right on top of keeping our cups full.

I ordered the Salmon Hash plate, and my friend ordered the Huevos Rancheros. In what seemed like no time, two beautiful plates of food came out. (See the pictures.) My plate was absolutely delicious. Everything on the plate seemed perfect to me. The leeks were the best I've had in a dish like this, and the homemade biscuit that came with it was wonderful.

My friend, being from San Antonio, was a bit skeptical that Huevos Rancheros outside of Texas was a good idea. He was quickly proven wrong, and like me, he devoured as much of the food as possible before throwing in the towel.

My only regret about The Madison Diner is that my stomach is not bigger. I would have loved to try nearly everything else on the menu. The next time I have the privilege of getting a room somewhere on Bainbridge Island, I think I'll have to eat at this place exclusively, just so I can get a more comprehensive taste of their wonderful menu.
