Review Izumi Japanese Sushi & Grill - Austin

I went to eat for lunch. Nothing special, but the food was okay.

They had a pretty tree painted on the wall and part of the ceiling. The food was yummy, but the service was slow. I recommend coming when you're not in a hurry.

Recently I visited Izumi Sushi in the Westlake Hills neighborhood of Austin, Texas for dinner at 6pm on a Wednesday. The place was packed - I got the last table for two; although, by 7pm many of the customers had cleared out. The menu is extensive and includes traditional sushi fare along with some specials, like the Longhorn roll. The Longhorn roll containts Shrimp tempura, yamagobo, cucumber, spicy white fish, topped with tempura flakes, spicy mayo, eel sauce & masago and is actually shaped like the Texas Longhorns logo! Additionally, it is DELICIOUS. Definitely the highlight of the meal for me. There is plenty of free parking in the shopping complex, which also includes the Westlake HEB, Chick-Fil-A and P Terry's.

Great place to have some sushi. They also have other Asian dishes.

Local favorite for take out or dine in. Nice selections of beers and wines with fresh selection of sashimi and sushi dishes. Fun combos with locally featured names. Amazing wine pours. Kiss The Fire comes out literally on fire.

It was pretty busy. Service and food were good. We didn't do hibachi. Just got a few rolls and hot Saki

Great little spot for some good Japanese food. The bento boxes are awesome, and they come with just a little bit of everything if you're undecided on what you'd like. It comes with some miso soup, gyoza, veggie tempura, a California roll, rice, and a protein. The Chicken Katsu and the Red Snapper Katsu are flavorful and very crispy. Their Avalanche sushi roll was also very good, and it has some jalapeño with a nice kick to it. They have a short selection of beer, but they offer stuff like Kirin Ichibon and Sapporo on draft. They're about as pricey as other sushi places, but their lunch specials have a nice discount, and they offer the same bento boxes and some sushi combinations. Definitely recommend this place for lunch or a nice quiet dinner.

To-go order: I ordered the Chicken Yakisoba lunch special online for pick up. The order was ready at the indicated pick up time. Staff were friendly. The flavor is stupendous. The noodles are light and bouncy and hold the sauce wonderfully. Loved the big chunks of red pepper and carrots. Definitely returning for lunch again.

I took my husband here for his birthday. It was my first time ever at a sushi restaurant, and I was not disappointed! Everything was absolutely delicious, and our waiter, I believe his name is Cody, was great. Very attentive and kind. We will definitely add this place to our date night rotation!

One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Their food is superior, the atmosphere is cosy yet lively, they're reasonably priced, and our waiter, Alexander, I can't say enough about. He was above top notch...AWESOME!!! Every restaurant should have a waiter like him. HIGHLY RECOMMEND DINING HERE!!!

Really, really great service. We sat at the sushi bar and it did not disappoint!

Staff was very friendly. Ordered the bento box for lunch and you get a TON of food, including main dish, tempera, soup, and six sushi pieces. Location is convenient if you're in the Bee Cave area. Will probably become a regular here.

Sushi is delish! It is always fresh! I got the cheery blossom roll and the foxy lady. The taste of the rolls were amazing! I love his place

Sushi is to die for!. We ate a late lunch/early dinner here Saturday, April 20, 2013. We have a Japanese Sushi place where we live that we loved, until we ate here. We live 3 hours away, but next time we are in Austin this is a definite must! The sushi here is the best I have ever tried. We had a California Roll and a Golden California Roll. Also had the Salmon Bente Box and Chicken Fried Rice Bowl. I can't say enough about this place! The pricing is very comparable to other Japanese Sushi places we have visited.

Love Izumi. My most recent visit to Izumi Sushi was Friday night January 27,2012. We stopped in fairly late for diners in Westlake, not getting to the restaurant until about 9:30. Even though the restaurant was bare of diners and they told us they had been swamped earlier, we were warmly greeted and seated at our usual table. <br/>I was with my husband and my always-hungry son, so we started with three miso soups to try and satiate our hungry child. He only got one of the soups. The soup was piping hot and the broth was rich with flavor. I cannot speak for the other diners, but although my broth was flavorful, there was not one piece of tofu, seaweed, or mushroom in it. This was a slight disappointment. <br/>We know what we like here, so we quickly placed our order:<br/>Two spicy scallop hand rolls<br/>One Hawaiian roll-spicy<br/>One order hamachi sashimi<br/>Two orders salmon nigiri<br/>One order tuna nigiri<br/>One firecracker roll<br/>Two golden cali rolls<br/>We anxiously await our food. The first thing to come out is the sashimi and nigiri. Both are spot on tonight. Sometimes the sashimi can be a bit too cold for my taste as Izumi but tonight all three things were perfect. We love the generous sized portions at Izumi. The wasabi is always spicy and the rice is always perfect. <br/>Next we had the Hawaiian roll. I must say it was actually better than usual. This is a very good roll. It is a traditional California roll with real crab and avocado. Topped with fresh tuna slices and more avocados. We order it spicy and it is usually served with house spicy mayo sauce when we order it that way. We got a treat this night as it also had house spicy sauce on it. When I complemented the flavor the manager told me they make it themselves. It really elevated the already scrumptious Hawaiian roll. <br/>Sure enough, the firecracker roll came before we finished our Hawaiian roll. This is my son's favorite. It is a shrimp tempura roll with avocado and veggies. It is then topped with spicy tuna and tempura flakes and two kinds of sauces. It is another excellent roll. Again, it was the perfect combination of cool, hot and crunch. Another winning roll they serve at Izumi. <br/>Just in time came the golden cali rolls. A traditional California roll, dipped in tempura, deep fried, and served with a multitude of yummy sauces on top. I'm not sure, but this might be tied with the firecracker roll for my son's favorite. I must admit it is very good. <br/>Finally, the two spicy scallop hand rolls are delivered. The server tells us that the manager (who we love!!!) has made them extra spicy for us. I do not eat these, but my husband and son start watering at the mouth in anticipation. We all look over at her and she smiles. I hear the server mention jalapenos…… My husband starts eating first and his head immediately becomes wet. Yes, the spice causes my husband to sweat. He loves it! He finishes his roll as our son eats his. Many glasses of water and beer are consumed. The thumbs up are given to the manager and she returns a lovely smile. <br/>Another great meal was served to us at Izumi. I must say their consistency and great service is something we look forward to weekly. Two thumbs up! We will be back soon.

Good food but over priced for a strip center! And don't sit in the corner because they tend to forget about you.

Great food, good service. We had lunch at Izumi and the food was great. The chicken terriyaki bento box was wonderful...lots of food. The service was OK. The staff was very pleasant, just not very organized.
