Review Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen - Austin

In my personal opinion, this location in Austin is one of the best of this chain! We have visited the one in Missouri, and in Houston, and I have to say this one has the most friendliest serving staff around. I love the adult beverages! The prices are amazingly low for this area. I had the ribeye steak dinner, magnificent! We had the Montecristo, yummy! We also had the hamburger which was absolutely amazing.

I have stopped in to this location several times and have been generally impressed with the food and service quality. The menu options cover all the basic eclectic flare. On one recent visit I had a particularly good tender and tasty chicken fried steak. The next time I went it was not as good but was still above average. The wait staff are friendly and engaging, but not overly so like in the film “Office Space” where they are competing over each other’s “flare” however, it is on the border. ;-) Overall this is a good place for times when you simply want a quality meal in a nice air conditioned darkened atmosphere. One last thing, they do have the self Serve/ self pay kiosks which I am not a fan of per se. Pro-tip, just turn it around and you will not have to view all the ads and “attention getters”.

The worst ever. It took about an hour to get our food. They came the kitchen did not receive our order. They were not busy maybe the whole restaurant about a dozen tables and half of them were waiting on their food that the kitchen forgot to cook. For our compensation they gave us croissant what a joke 🤣 😂 😆 🙄. The waitress was nice and the food was ok after we finally received it. We already lost our appetite so we ate a little and took a doggy bag with us . They need to do better.

My husband, daughter and I came here today around 4pm. The service here was wonderful from the older lady host who was overwhelmed with a huge party arriving but she was doing her best, to the bartender who was sweet and down to eath to the cook who brought out our appetizer that had a great personality. Hard to explain but it was just a very welcoming and nice experience which we needed after a stressful week. Our bartender/server in the bar area was very sweet even with having several other customers. Our drinks were spot on. And WOW at the food. Seriously, everything was PERFRCT!! Huge props to the kitchen staff. I had shrimp and chicken and it could not have been cooked better...it was delicious. Husband had shrimp and ribs which were great too. The bar area was very clean and relaxing. What's funny about this is we were last here about 3 years ago and it was terrible for the 2nd time so I said I never wanted to come to this location again. Well we were shopping in the area and starving today so we decided to give them another chance...I am sooo glad we did!! Also thanks to the manager who hired some excellent staff with great personalities. We will definitely be back!

I was there with my family on a Sunday evening. There was 7 of us and we waited a few minutes. Our food was delicious. I had the lemon pepper chicken and it was awesome... Our waiter I think he's name was Mat. He was really good and kept cups filled. I been here before and it wasn't so great but this time they either got a new cook or something because everything was delicious and warm..

All I can say is service needs to get better. If I'm sitting at the table with other people and we ordered drinks but you bring me a to-go cup and the other people have glasses, you need to be retained. How can a waiter or waitress make that so-called mistake.

Awesome food, even better service and staff attention. Not to mention super friendly guys at bar serving drinks (the girl and the guy). Will definitely come back! ...sports showing at screens sums well. Great job to the owners and management team

this is the best Cheddar's I've been to, hands down. I went around 9:30pm with my girlfriend, and we never felt pushed to leave unlike so many other places. our server was excellent; the correct amount of interaction and space is a difficult thing to get right, but he was very professional and did a great job. and the food was fantastic, with steak coming out just as ordered and very hot. our favorite part of the visit was finding the drinks that have a 2 order maximum (it's like they're telling you their strongest cocktails for free :p). very good atmosphere and a nice place to go on a date night when you're feeling basic but don't want Olive Garden 😂💜

We were greeted with a smile as we walked and immediately given a table. The ambience was great. The waiter and hostess were very friendly and brought out our drinks in a timely manner. The food was great and the prices were better than fair compared to similar establishments.

Took a little long for us to get the food but our waitress was great. Shw made sure our food was getting done and would complain to the cooks if not done fast. My sister in law Steak was prepared well done when she wanted it medium rare and the waitress made sure she would not wait another hour to be ready.

When we're feeling snacky and want to eat out, this is where we go. We can order several dishes that all split so well between our group. Drinks are lovely. It has a great atmosphere and vibe to visit with friends and family.

How do you rate an upscale Burger King which serves alcohol? In frigging huge mugs. Which are blue. And frozen. Sugar. It's a place where you would hear a patron say, "I've only had 5 and I don't even have a buzz yet!". Well, they are like 5 bucks or something. Everyone who works there remind me of Hooter's girls, you know the one's who are just future strippers in training. NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. My analogy is that I hope these servers are cutting their teeth in the food industry here and heading to greener pastures. Every one was pleasant and engaging when prompted. There was one server who had "Trainer" on their shirt, apparently one of their seasoned veterans. Nice to know we were in expert hands. People watching was great so we ordered ourselves up a glass of wine and chilaxed.

Freezing, a/c on winter? poor service. Waited 15 minutes with no server. Went to the bar and ordered a drink. 15 minutes later, waitress came. 30 minutes later in the freezing cold, and server came to take our order. Finished our drinks.... Won't be back!

My Complaint to Cheddars and My experience. I wrote to Cheddars to share my horrific experience. But I thought I would share with the media as well. Here it is:
This has to be the most unfavorable visit I have EVER experienced at Cheddars. I have been an avid patron for over 5 years and never have I've been disappointed with the atmosphere, service and management.
Let me begin by the wait to get my table. I arrived about 6:15 and finally got sit down about 7:15. I do understand it was a Friday night. I totally understand that this was a dinner rush. But I started noticing that other people who had gotten there after my party (which was only 2 people) I started to wonder if I had been forgotten.
So as I was waiting, I couldn't help but notice the hostess started yelling at a server to leave the area. This was not subtle either. She was very rude and demeaning to the server.
Also another hostess who was at the station, felt the need to point out the a little person was walking out to her coworkers. She literally said "Look guys! look!" The person did not hear her, but I sure did as well as my guest. there were also a few curse words being said at the booth.
After waiting about 15 more minutes I go ask the hostess about the table. She looked at her list, and didn't see me. So she went in her drawer to pull out another list which I was on. From a patron's point of view, it looked like I was skipped or marked off accidentally. I know that happens from time to time. But the hostess didn't admit to it, and said it was going to be a little longer. She offered us a seat at the bar and high bar tables, but we opted for a table.
So we commenced to wait. Another 15 minutes passes and at this point I talk to Michelle, the manager. I explained my frustration and she insisted that I wasn't forgotten. I also explained what had happened with the hostesses and she said she would address that. I didn't seem to convinced.
We finally get seated about 7:15 and our server asked what we wanted to drink. By this time we had enough time to look at the menu and we knew what to order.
My guest has food allergies, and in a prior visit , Casey, the manager at the time, gave us a personal menu that my guest could eat from. At the time she saved it her phone for future visits. So she reads the menu of items she wants to order. To clarify things, my guest has a gluten allergy. She also has a dairy intolerance.
As she was ordering, the server had no clue about gluten not dairy. He tried to lie his way through it, and say the total opposite of what Casey had originally given us. We explained the severity of it. We both knew that this might not be a good idea, when he said that the steaks did not come on a bed of fried onions, which Cheddars is known for. But we tried to give the server a chance.
He took our order and left.
He came back with our ice teas, and they looked like they had no ice in them. But before I could tell him he was gone. At this point the manager , Michelle, sat with us to apologize. She noticed there was no ice in our teas. She apologized and was going to get us more teas with ice. I let her know about my guests allergies and what had happen and she stated that she couldn't believe the server would do that. She also reconfirmed that the steaks do come on beads of fried onions. She said she would get that taken care of.
We finally get our meal and it appears that my steak and vegetables were cooked the same way as my guests. So unfortunately it was pretty dry and bland and my steak didn't come with the fried onions. At this point I had given up. I tried to enjoy my meal and try to salvage my experience.
At the end of my dinner, the check was brought to me. I noticed that there were a few things that weren't ours on there. But they were at a cheaper price, so I figured that the manager had charged us a lower rate because of the mishaps. I give the server my credit card and he comes back with my copy to sign and the total is higher than the first receipt. At this point I had to bring Michelle back and explain. She apologized and said the server gave us the wrong ticket. At this point I know I had to tell someone how this restaurant was being run.
Hence I am writing you. This was one of the worst experience tat I have ever had at a restaurant hands down. From the yelling , cursing, making fun of people to the horrible food and bad management. Someone needs to take a look at what is going on at this location. When Casey was there ,the place was enjoyable to go to. Now I may never go back and it's unfortunate because I truly loved Cheddars.
I will be forwarding this email to board members and other people who need to hear this.
This experience should have never happened.

Hello Cheddar's. When I was passing through Texas I stopped at Cheddar's for dinner due to the concentration of cars in its parking lot. It definitely seemed like the popular local restaurant so I was content with waiting near their beautiful fish tanks for a moment. I was promptly sat and serviced by a neatly dressed waitress, I opted for the Texas Cheese Fries for an appetizer, for my entrée I ordered the Dijon Chicken and Mushrooms which sat atop a bed of rice and came accompanied by the broccoli and baby carrots that I requested. The cheese fries were hot, crispy, melted, covered in bacon goodness that stood six inches off the table. Served with a side of buttermilk ranch dressing they were an idyllic fry experience. My Dijon Chicken was tender and tangy sweet, scattered with sautéed mushrooms and resting on a bed of herbaceous rice. My side of glazed baby carrots were sweet and aldente, the steamed broccoli was piping hot, vibrant green and not at all over steamed. I wanted to save room for their legendary skillet cookie but due to the hefty Texas-sized portions at Cheddar's that was an exercise in futility. The only snag in my visit was that I was forgotten by my waitress for about a third of my meal, after I readdressed her though she saw me well attended to. Cheddar's isn't at all what I expected, I thought I was stopping at the equivalent of a Texan Applebee's but the interior was clean, the décor classy, the employees were well dressed and most importantly the food delivered big portions for a small bill. If I lived in Texas I could see myself becoming a regular customer, I'll definitely stop in the next time I swing through the Lone Star State.
