Review Qdoba Mexican Eats - Austin

Matt
First time eating here as my wife and I met up with her sister and husband for lunch. We had great service and the food was excellent. The Spicy El Mejor margarita was fantastic. The drinks are not the cheapest, but they also don't rip you off with cheap ingredients or a watered down, tasteless drink, either. Really one of the best margaritas I've ever had. Overall, a great first impression, and we'll go there again next time we're in town.

I’ll admit, my first time here was not remarkable. After giving it a second shot, my mind was changed for the better. We had their classic Paloma’s combo, that had chicken, and Cochinita pibil with an enchilada. The fish tacos was also hearty and the tostadas were fresh. The chips and salsa was excellent as well, the chips were crispy and not greasy at all.

I loved every bit of being here. The food was exceptional, and i came in not being hungry. To be able to walk in and get hungry, is something not many places can accomplish. The drinks made it that much better.

My husband and I stopped for dinner after work and had the perfect unwinding experience! The ambience and service was top notch not to mention the deliciousness of the food! It's our new favorite hot spot!

I ordered chips and salsa to start ( the Chios where amazing). For main coarse I had grilled shrimp tacos they were delicious on point. I recommend it if in Austin, Texas.

Las Palomas is a delightful neighborhood gem. The food & atmosphere are consistently great. My favorite dishes are the chicken mole and also the ceviche tostadas. Our favorite evenings at Las Palomas are Thursdays and Saturdays when the band Seven plays great light jazz perfect for dinner conversations & entertainment. It’s great that we can always count on great food, atmosphere & music every Thursday & Saturday. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Our varsity football moms have lunch here every Friday during the season. They are always very hospitable. Ryan is the best server we have had BY FAR. He goes out of his way to explain everything and very gracious and helpful. Good food and beverages.

Down the road from an appointment I had in Austin the other day. Figured it was close, and I could compare Austin TexMex to San Antonio. The chips were extra crispy and were not a bit greasy. The salsa was balanced and on the spicy side for the “standard”. Typically I will ask for something spicier, but this did nicely. The mix fajitas were a balanced blend of meat, peppers and onions, the comal however was barely warm, let alone hot or sizzling. I also expected hand made corn tortillas and instead had machine made. The cheese, shredded lettuce and sour cream all seemed to be fresh, hand sliced and shredded. The sour cream a traditional thinner Mexican variety, which I use in my own cooking. Worth a visit, off balance if good and bad, but expensive at over $20/ guest for lunch. And in the end….San Antonio wins!

Fabulous Presentation and Great Tasting Dishes. My wife and her Cousin from Mexico City enjoyed the Ceviche Tostadas, while I thoroughly enjoyed the Avocado Tostadas. We all tasted & enjoyed the warm Chicken and Rice Broth Consome Soup as a starter. Leo was a First Class Waiter and was Efficient. We will definitely be back other family and friends. Highly Recommended.

Hidden gem in Austin! Real amazing mexican food, live band, and the Premium Margueritas were the best I’ve ever had. Such a great and cozy place!

The food and drinks are all amazing, but where Las Palomas stands out is with their amazing customer service. We’ve been coming to Las Palomas for years - from date nights, to company holiday parties, and friend-reunions, they’ve always made us feel welcome and taken care of. Highly, highly recommend!

We did not order seafood paella n it was brought to our table n we sent it back. We ordered the meat paella n chicken paellas. The meat paella was ok but not exceptional. We knew it would take a long time to reorder the chicken so we opted to cancel order but were very disappointed. Service was mediocre at best. We were celebrating a birthday n it just became a disaster. Service was slow. We will not be returning, the restaurant did not leave to the hype.

The atmosphere was very nice inside, and I noticed they have a lovely outdoor patio area as well. The salsa that comes with the chips is too hot for my taste.

The President of the University of Austin called Las Palomas "the best Mexican food in Austin." He may have been exaggerating, but you can't go wrong here. The enchiladas are excellent with great vegetarian options. If you like spicy, choose racheras. If you prefer milder, potosinas or spinach are both savory. Kitchen opens at 11am and closes at 2pm for lunch, then reopens for dinner.

Stopped in for a late lunch with my wife, and really enjoyed the whole experience. We were a little dirty, but the staff was accomodating even so. Empanadas were delicious.

Good food, pretty solid performance. I love Mexican food, this is on the fancy end of the spectrum. The ceviche tostadas are delicious, and the house salsa has really nice flavors with a good kick. Staff is VERY courteous and friendly. All dishes were very well done and high marks from everyone.

Service was great. My margarita was wonderful. The food however was disappointing. I've heard such wonderful things about this place. I ordered the seafood veracruzana and the fish was tilapia. It was horribly overbooked, so much so that the edges were so tough that I could cut them with a knife and they were inedible.

Disappointed - One and Done. It's an easy place to miss/forget based upon its location -- tucked in the corner of a shopping center and not visible from 2244 or Walsh Tarlton. This past Sunday, I was running some errands in that center and was reminded of it. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays -- unusual for restaurants -- so I wasn't able to visit until tonight (Friday).

I started with the tortilla soup. (Note: Their version is not made with chicken.) I was served a cup of tomato broth topped with tortilla chips. Disappoinitng.

For my entree, I had the chicken enchiladas, which were fine -- not spectacular; not bad. The accompanying refried beans were run-of-the-mill. As other Yelpers have noted, they serve white rice, which I found to be quite good -- in fact, it was the most enjoyable item on the plate.

Service note: After starting on an unbelievably sour note, my server did his best to recover.

Parking: There is plenty.

This place is disgusting. Finger prints everywhere! Host was stoned out of her mind. Didn't care about anyone. Couldn't even open her eyes. The waiter brought the wrong sides and then replated my food with bits of the other food on it. (I'm chronicly allergic!)

Very poor service. Disappointed. Expensive. Back to Flores.

Best Interior Mexican food ever!. I went to Austin for business and asked valet for a recomendation of a good mexican restaurant. An older couple in the lobby overheard it and they told me to go to Las Palomas. When I got there it was packed and the wait was 30 minutes (the only bad thing), but then again I didn't call to make a reservation. I had the shrimp enchiladas and they were simply outstanding. A colleague of mine ordered the chile relleno and he loved it . The crowd seemed older and upscale but prices were not bad at all.
Just as someone recommended this place to me, I would recommend this to anyone wanting to experience a great mexican meal.

Has Been. Used to be really. really good. Now it is less than ordinary boring greasy food, crowded & noisy. Better Mexican food can be had almost anywhere else in Austin.

Best crispy beef tacos in Austin! They add queso to the well-flavored meat! They should be tried immediately, along with the creamy corn soup! And get a limeade! It is sparkilng and delicious!

One of my favorite comfort food escapes. I love the peacado Vera Cruz Ana. It is run by a wonderful mother/daughter team who take pride in every experience you have the minute you walk through the door.
