Review Hillside Farmacy - Austin

Renee Riffee
Went for a quiet lunch mid-week and was pleasantly surprised. The menu is very limited, which is fine if you have enough solid choices but this was a little too limited for me. I went with the mac and cheese and it was tasty but a bit too expensive for what you were getting. I don't typically get something that I can easily make it home, but it sounded warmy and comforting and it was. The service was great, she was attentive but not overly so and the vibe inside is very charming and adds to the ambiance. You could have a whole conversation just looking at what's around your table which helps the small talk. Overall, a good find but probably wouldn't return unless they rotate the menu.

My recent dining experience at Hillside Farmacy was truly delightful! The charming ambiance complements their focus on fresh, simple American cuisine, evident in every dish. I chose the Big Brekkie—a feast for the senses with over-easy eggs, cherry tomatoes, avocado, and toast with butter and homemade strawberry jam. The harmonious blend of flavors was impressive, though the potatoes were a bit too crispy. The standout was the buttermilk pancake—fluffy, flavorful, and served with perfection. A must-try for pancake enthusiasts! Hillside Farmacy impresses with a great selection of well-prepared dishes in a charming atmosphere. I'll be returning for more delicious experiences. Highly recommended!

A cute small place with both indoor and outdoor seating. The food was excellent, not a lot of options but it was great for a brunch. The staff was super nice, attentive. The coffee bar was interesting, I ordered an iced macchiato and it’s perfect, not sweet and it has the sour taste that I love 😊 highly recommend and will come back.

The food here was great, it's a cute little spot. It had indoor and outdoor seating (with mist fans blowing cool air for this Texas heat). Good for a girls brunch or family brunch (and to take some cute pictures). In the pictures is the Fried Egg Sandwich & the Steak and Eggs. And a carafe of mimosas in that cute container. The food was great, the servings are just right to fill you up. 10/10 highly recommend When back in Austin I will try this place again!

I had a great experience at Hillside pharmacy! Even though it's hot outside, we were able to get a seat outside relatively quickly and they have misting fans which seem to be rare now. I ordered coffee, mimosas, pancakes, eggs, and bacon and it was all delicious. It is all a little pricey but the quality is great! Come early if you want to eat at this great restaurant!

The Good: I have nothing really to add to the "bad" section. Everything was wonderful. My wife and I brought our baby and instead of treating us differently as would be so easy to do with a stroller in a smaller bistro style restaurant, they were very accommodating. Our server was so attentive, kind, and helpful. The food was excellent and what at first seemed like smaller portion sizes, were in the end perfect. Will be returning. The Bad: Maybe move the bottle of "diarrhea powder" from the 1940's from view while we eat? That's all I got.

Such a cute spot! My friends and I stopped for bunch before heading home from our girls getaway. It was decorated so cute, the service was great, and the food was delicious! If I'm ever back in Austin I'll definitely stop by again.

We were able to get seated right away on a Saturday morning. The atmosphere was great. The staff friendly and the food was Amazing. I had a latte and they made it look cute with a heart on the top. Super fancy. I had the big brekkie and it was yummy. Bacon was delicious too! Highly recommend!

Will go back to Austin to eat here again. I had the egg sandwich (not pictured, sorry!) which was off the chart. Friend had the oyster mushroom toast (pictured), which was also bomb. This place also had fabulous coffee (bag pictured), great service, and the restaurant is really neat (old building, etc.).

Went for brunch around 1, seats were available at the bar, meant to go somewhere nearby but they had a hour wait. Steak N eggs was delicious asked for rare medium and they made to order. Small steak but with everything I was quite full and delighted. Oyster they had one kind that day, I tried a little lemon but I find as usual just taste the ocean.

There is not enough space here to capture the experience. We wondered off the beaten path and found this place. We love quaint niche places with a story and Hillside Farmacy is just that. Like many growing cities urban sprawl has pushed out and priced out so many people who lived here for over a generation. That is what has happened and continues to happen to East Austin as we learned. The building housing and the decor is a slightly renovated pharmacy belonging to the first Black pharmacist who practiced in this area. The retro apothecary is adorned with relics from when his practice was active. Honestly, this building would be better served as a museum, not to detract from the current efforts but the food is delicious and the story is so magnificent I think it the two can stand alone. But for now go for the burger and the malt vinegar fries, the fried egg with fried green tomatoes and the ginger beer was delicious. Take a Uber to get just outside downtown for this experience it is one of the best. I wish much success and growth of the business and preservation of this landmark.

This is one of my my favorite brunch places in Austin. Big brekkie with mimosas is spot on, but don't leave without having your pancakes, you won't regret!!!

Beautiful! This restaurant in spicy east Austin downtown will take you back to the 1930’s! Even the staff looked the part. The food was delicious, plated well, and the drinks were so creative and amazing!

I had the most delightful dining experience at Hillside Farmacy, and I couldn't be happier to give it a five-star review! From start to finish, this place exceeded my expectations in every way. First and foremost, the farm-to-table menu is a true culinary masterpiece. It's refreshing to know that the ingredients are sourced locally, and each dish reflects the vibrant flavors of the season. The Summer Tomato & Peach Salad, in particular, was a revelation. The blend of ripe tomatoes and sweet peaches was a burst of summertime in every bite, and the freshness was undeniable. The charming and elegant atmosphere at Hillside Farmacy is a perfect backdrop for a memorable meal. Whether you're seated inside the beautifully restored pharmacy or out on the lovely patio, you'll feel transported to a bygone era while still enjoying modern comforts. The friendly staff deserve special mention. Their warm welcome and attentive service made me feel like a valued guest throughout my visit. They were knowledgeable about the menu and offered excellent recommendations, enhancing my dining experience even further. In summary, Hillside Farmacy is a culinary gem that combines a farm-to-table ethos with a charming ambiance and top-notch service. If you're looking for a restaurant that encapsulates the spirit of local, seasonal dining, this is the place to be. And don't miss the Summer Tomato & Peach Salad—it's a taste of sunshine on a plate

I like the vintage vibe. I got a big brekkie with poached egg, sausage and cheese grit. The hot sauce they had was really good with the cheese grits. I am only taking one off because i wish they give slightly bigger portion. Maybe I was hungry but a bit small for me when I had it

Hillside Farmacy was a great experience. I love the effort the staff put into representing the establishment. Courteous and professional. I liked the space also. They gave us (a three person party) the booth by the host stand. A very beautiful place to done with family and friends on a late Sunday morning. The food was awesome. Everything tasted exactly as described. Oh and on a side note. Parking was not as crazy as people thought. Very accessible.

The pancakes are phenomenal, probably the best I’ve ever had! The bacon also was perfect. The shrimp grits had a nice Cajun flavoring. I didn’t understand why one egg cost $4 though - that was a bit outrageous. All in all, great quality food.

Hillside farmacy is a super cute, hip spot for brunch. It is never not busy, so prepare for a little bit of a wait, luckily it’s next door to a couple boutiques that will help you kill some time. All plates were smaller portion so if you’re extra hungry maybe you’ll need to order double. Service was prompt and friendly. Punch was light and delicious, I ended up ordering a carafe of it! Shrimp and grits had great texture and hearty without feeling heavy. I had room for dessert which is a pretty rare event but I was glad I did. I wish I could have a casserole sized plate of it so I could pick at it while working from home

Some of the previous reviews mention that he service was "awful", that is NOT the experience my friends and I had. Hostess, bartender, and server were the tops! Biscuits and gravy, delicious! Egg and fried green tomato sandwich, amazing! It you are in the mood for a cocktail, my friends recommend the Bloody Mary's. I recommend the Lavender Cowboy.

We shared the crab cakes, the burger (messy style) & malt fries, Seafood primavera & root vegetables. Our waitress recommends dipping the fries & root vegetables in their aoili & it was delicious! The burger was juicy & flavorful and the seafood pasta was bursting with citrus & a touch of red pepper. Everything was very good. We finished with a Cortado & the creme brûlée! Yum!

Stopped in to enjoy a delicious lunch on their comfortable patio and had a wonderful experience! My beet salad was exquisite and our server Clint was charming and helpful. I really love this place.

We went for Sunday brunch. It took us over an hour to get seated even though there were many tables open. They seemed to be having some difficulty with their reservation/text system. Then, our waitress was very inattentive. My sister had to ask for a cup of ice three times and it came towards the end of our meal. Getting our meal took a long time. Especially considering breakfast food is a faster food to prepare. My husband's pancakes were burnt on the bottom as was my brother's toast. I hope it was just an off day, but we will not be back.

Love the charm, ambience, food and service at Hillside. Great place to relax, enjoy friends, family and share a meal. Always make a trip here when we are in Austin

very nice place. Casual, reasonable and varied menu in a restored pharmacy. Everything was delicious. Beautiful fixtures, flooring, bar and cabinetry.

Very nice atmosphere Helpful staff Good service Delicious food We will be back Thank you for a very enjoyable day when we just wanted to "hang" as a family - we felt no pressure and enjoyed the food and libations

The food was good and the vibe was cool. The service was awful. After being seated we waited 20 minutes for someone to take our drink order, despite multiple wait staff walking by us repeatedly. After asking the host about the delay, our waitress finally came to our table approximately 10 minutes later, offered no apology, and was quite unpleasant.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I've never had good service here, but the service today was so awful and we were treated so poorly, I will never frequent this "establishment" again. It took forever just to get water and drinks. When our food came, we had to get our own ketchup and hot sauce bc our server never checked on us. We then sat around for what felt like forever when we just wanted to pay the check and leave. Taking matters into our own hands, yet again, we went inside to push this along. When we went back to our table this rude busser told us we couldn't sit down. This woman has been rude to me before and should be fired for being so disrespectful to customers. I'm surprised they didn't make us bus our own table after the awful awful awful service. You better believe I'm going to tell everyone I know not to eat here.

I love everything about this restaurant! The atmosphere and decor is perfect. Food is so tasty with great options, and the House Punch could be my new favorite drink! Wish I lived in Austin so I could enjoy this place more often.

We love this place. My roasted chicken was delicious and my daughter's pasta dish was also very good. Love the vibe.

Food was good but served cold. Had to ask the server to heat it up and came back with a new plate.

Pearl was our waitress today and she was a gem! Not only did she provide great service, but she went above and beyond to help me with my baby (no changing table in the bathroom) and she even took our picture when both of our phones had died! Overall a wonderful dining experience. Thank you for a wonderful time!
