Review La Condesa - Austin

Very nice ambience at this place at 2nd street. Different quintessential Mexican food. Drinks were especially awesome. Vegetarian options were less. Loved Esquites, Guac, Squash. Very fresh refreshing taste. Server was very polite and accomodated our vegetarian needs. Must must visit.

Absolutely incredible! We had the queso flameado (WOW!) to start with the La Condesa margarita - amazing. The Crudo with Bluefin Tuna was the best ceviche we’ve ever had (10/10), highly recommend! We also had the Cochinita Pibil with the refried black beans and escabeche (OMG!). For dessert we had a hard time choosing between the churros and the Trea Leches. Ultimately went with Tres Leches and we finished every bite! Light and creamy, not too heavy and bursting with flavor. The executive chef, Rick is a really awesome guy! The staff were attentive and so knowledgeable with every dish. Great date night atmosphere! Definitely coming back to try more things - this will be a staple dining spot for us!

You need to get the Queso Flameado with Short Rib. My partner is lactose intolerant (and low key I might be too), but it is sooo worth it. The drinks and desserts are amazing too. Definitely come here for a quick snack, happy hour, or full meal 🙌

Cannot say enough good things about this spot and the staff. Extremely professional and amazing service. I ordered from staff recommendation and got a seasonal spiced tea margarita and a “fried caper” raw tuna dish and both were so good! I honestly complimented them both to the server - my date got a vegan mushroom dish and enjoyed it a lot. Great location in downtown Austin - we sat on the tiny patio and loved that they faced the table inward toward the bar so we didn’t have to focus on the street activity on 2nd

This is a low key restaurant with great food. The glass floor to ceiling windows and plants remind you of being in Ciudad de México if only for a brief moment to escape Texas. The homemade guacamole was awesome and they even source the tomatoes from Marfa. The chilaquiles are great and recommend them for brunch. If you’re thirsty, I recommend the Paloma’s and apparently the frozen one is the way to go. The team that works here are helpful and make you feel at home.

Great TexMex food in the heart of downtown Austin, Tx. Portions are shareable. Our favorite was the queso with fresh tortillas . 🔥

Chicken mole 10/10. Cocktails on point. Suave vibes. Ton of gluten free options.

I had a great experience here! Went with a large group and we had many plates to share. The service was prompt for our party. The classic margarita was very well done. The street corn is amazing - this is a must. The rotisserie chicken is amazing as well - very light and flavorful. The churros were INSANELY good. Some of the best churros I’ve ever had. The atmosphere is amazing as well and has a great backstory. Only reason for 4 stars is the cost of the meal was higher, but that’s a downtown pricing.

I really enjoyed our experience!! We did 1 app, 1 starter and shared a dinner from the back and it was plenty for dinner and leftovers for lunch the next day! The queso is a must and we loved the carnitas tacos. Our server was knowledgeable about the food process and every detail of each dish!

We had lunch there for Valentine's Day. Even being the first of few, the service was a little slow. The food, however, was REALLY good. We started with chips and salsa, four different salsas. I got the Pineappl eMint agua Fresca, loved it! My husband drank a margarita, it was good, but typical. My husband ordered the Barbacoa En Mole tacos. The portions were small, but it was good. OMG! I ordered the ChoriQueso torta, and that was SOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!!! ugh!! Perfection. We finished with La Rubia, a blondie with candied pineapple, dulce de leche ice cream, and lime meringue. Also, with the Boca Negra, a chocolate lava cake spiced with ancho chili, with caramelized banana, banana and brown sugar ice cream. Before tip, all of that totaled to about $65.

La Condesa is an incredible spot for delicious, contemporary Mexican food. They are located in the 2nd Street District in Downtown Austin and the atmosphere of this restaurant is so lovely. Inside, the space is so clean, well-kept, and the vibes are immaculate. On the patio, you can anticipate a quiet, shaded outdoor space to enjoy your food & cocktails. The staff are kind & efficient, the food is delicious, and the margaritas are SO good. For brunch, try the Queso Flameado & Guacamole, and Quesadilla de Short Rib. In regard to cocktails, the Margaritas La Clásica is so refreshing!! I cannot recommend La Condesa enough, this place is great!

Amazing experience for my Birthday dinner. We already knew how great the ambiance was, but the food, the drinks and the service were amazing too! Ceviche with tuna and onion oil, short ribs, pictured here, were our favorites. Mezcal drink had so many layers of flavor. Foodies dream! Thank you!

We visited for a private event. The staff was excellent and the food was delicious. It was exciting to duck our heads and go down to the private dining space. The entire restaurant above was bustling.

Worst food ever. Service was mediocre at best. I have always heard about this place and how it is o so wonderful and supposedly one of the best restaurants in town. Well, it definitely wasn't. Friends got married and they had family in town, decided to take them their for Sunday brunch. First and foremost, for the portion sizes it is way over priced. We tried the guacamole and salsa combo. Chips tasted store bought and even though there were four different salsa s, the portions were ridiculously small especially for the price. The cocktails and margaritas were ok(would expect more for $12) but let me tell you about the food....... My wife ordered the fish tacos(I believe around $13) and took 2 bites and was done. When I tried them after I understood why. There was barely any fish, with some sort of bland slaw and sauce. Didn't have much flavor to it, neither did the white rice. Best part of her plate were the runny black beans. As for myself, I had the hamburger, why you ask, because nothing else looked very appetizing and it was ($16) so I figured it should be a half descent burger. I was wrong, bread was super soggy, and everything was falling apart(including the patty) best part about it was the jam but you couldn't get to it because of the huge crust of cheese. The groom had the "Torta" and needless to say, well it looked like a whole lot of bread and not a lot of filling. There was suppose to be some sort of pineapple something but that was not present. Bottom line is, the service was horrible and the food was right there with it. Not only did it take forever for the food to come out for a table of 8, but it came out in waves, so by the time we got our food it was luke warm at best. Never again for brunch, I may attempt dinner but it definetly isn't going to be on my dime.

The location is good and I loved the design of the restaurant. The host was attentive and friendly. However the music was loud and annoying; it was difficult to hold a conversation during dinner. The food was good, but not worthy of the prices. I enjoyed the guacamole and chips; my entree was good, but not worth $27. I was very disappointed in the service. Our server did not earn the 20% gratuity that was automatically included on our bill. She ignored us most of the time and seemed uninterested in serving us. At one point she stopped by and chatted with us about how much my sister looked like her friend, but then left and never asked if we needed anything. She was gone for so long; one person in our party gave up ordering his drink from her and finally left and went to the bar to get his drink. At the end she wanted us to do all the math for our bill at the end, or just split it three ways. We reluctantly agreed to split it three ways, but then another server jumped in and did the math.

I had 4 GF's in town for the weekend and made a reso here. I was super excited as this was once my favourite place. Sadly it isn't anymore. The experience was disappointing to say the least. It started with the reso. I had made it for 12;30 for 6. At 12:36 we were walking through the door at the same time they were calling me to confirm I was coming. No big deal , just sets a tone for the rest of the day. I understand if the place is hoping, but it wasn't. It was half full at best. We ordered mimosa (2 dollars on Sunday) and two of my GF's asked for just the bubbles. She said Yup no prob. We expected to be drinking cheap bubbles, and perhaps pay double for the straight up glasses. The drinks took forever to arrive, and I mean forever. The app's were already on the table and mostly eaten by the time they showed up. I have been there when there has been a line out the door and the service was much quicker. The waitress, was aloof and uninterested in serving our table. We all ordered and two of my GF's really hate runny eggs. They asked that the eggs on their dish be cooked hard. After a while the waitress returned and and said "CHEF" refuses to cook the eggs hard! Then she just stands there. No other option given, no return of the menu, she basically just looks at us. We now have to guess what the next move is. Someone asks WHY? She starts with some story about local free run eggs and my then GF can't take it and says, "OK just stop right there, that BS, just leave the eggs off the plate then" She turns and walks away. Doesn't ask if we would like more drinks etc, just walks away. Eventually the food arrives and as the runner drops it, we beg them to get us another "round". As we have not seen our server at all. Everyone is eating and laughing and having a good time, but the kicker is, MY DISH, which was to come with a runny egg (so good making the sauce thick and creamy) my egg is cooked HARD! so much so that the whites are rubbery! IT's not even appetizing. I would have gladly sent it back to the "CHEF" however by the time the server had arrived with the second round of drinks we had ordered from a runner, my meal was mostly done, san's egg. I pointed it out her her she smirked and took my plate away. No apology or acknowledgement that she would inform "Chef" they are capable of cooking hard eggs, even on dishes that require runny ones. At this point the bill arrives and we realize, what two of GF's thought was cheap bubbles infact 12 dollar bubbles, fine, however would have been nice to have been told that from the beginning, as they would have pick something else they would've enjoyed for 12. IE wine of margs. The 250 dollar bill put everyone off for a mediocre brunch with little joy and loads of pretence. I would like to remind you and "CHEF" we have choices in Austin, and next time this one won't be mine.

I ordered chilaquiles w/o eggs, so the portion was pretty small. But the waiter recognized the small portion and brought out more chilaquiles without me having to even say anything. They were spicy and delish!

Experience went from meh to disappointing. I was impressed with not one single thing that I drank or ate, which is a bit of a bummer considering how many amazing restaurants we could have gone to for the price, and the service was uninspired at best. At some point we were handed to someone new with zero explanation and that person never bothered to speak more than two words to us. Whatever the appeal is here, I just don't get it.

As a Mexican, from Mexico, this was not real Mexican cuisine. You're better off at Fonda San Miguel if you want to experience genuine Mexican food that isn't some weird ass gringo fusion interpretation of Mexican side dishes. The food wasn't bad -it was kind of tasty- it just wasn't Mexican.

Where to begin...This was my first time dining here, I have to say my food was good, my drink was ok, but the service was terrible. I was with a party of 12 so I understand that always makes it harder for the server and restaurant, but this was ridiculous. By far the worst service I have EVER experienced. Our waiter, Jamie (who I swear played the sloth in Zootopia), only acknowledged half the table for at least the first 15 minutes. Then, he greeted my half of the table with a 5 minute monologue that was mostly inaudible, only to walk away without taking our drink order. After finally ordering our food, dear Jamie went MIA for a while. Like I said before the food was good, but not everyone at the table had the same experience. In 2 different dishes, we found large pieces of plastic, it looked like a prong from a fork. The manager gave us his email and said there wasn’t anything they could but bring us dessert. Because Jamie was taking forever we decided to start the check splitting early. Our dessert took a long time to come out and all they gave us were 5 scoops of ice cream (small scoops!) to share between 12 people. The checks were by far the worst part. It took 45 minutes to get them. He kept getting one check completely wrong (3 times!), she ended up having to write down the order for him to take to the register. My husband tried giving dear Jamie the check about 5 times but he never acknowledged my husband. Thankfully, they took off all the gratuity because the service was so lackluster. How Jamie got a job there blows my mind, he doesn’t match the vibe of the place at all. Once again, the food was really good, but the service killed the entire experience for me. I will not be going back.

The service was good; however, the food was not. For the prices they charge, you would expect the meat wouldn't be over cooked. Tried the yellowfin tostadas (ok but you only get 3). The ceviche - meh. Chicken mole was dry with barely any mole sauce and way overpriced for fried chicken with bland rice and corn. The beef and manchego taquitos were ok, but again, the meat was over cooked and tough. For a $136 meal for two, pretty disappointing.

The food was absolutely amazing. It was a party going on in my mouth with each bit. This place is a must!!!!

Had THE best experience celebrating my Mom's birthday there!!! From the appetizers to the main entree!... the waiter was great! describing the dishes, and learning that most ingredients are natural and locally made from Austin...!!! Which explains the pricing... unique, delicious dishes!

Over priced, small portions, SLOW service, rediculous "happy hour rules", and every other hole in the wall Mexican food restaurant is a million times better!

This food is amazing. Jessica our server was knowledgeable and amazing. Definitely a go back.

Went there last year though the food was pricey, it was wonderful. Went back last Thursday night before a show at the Moody, was gravely disappointed ,I've never been to a bar that doesn't have orange juice ?! The nachos were uninspired, the chips were stale and flavorless, the crab guacamole also uninspired purée with more tasteless chips. Wondering how long they'll last at this rate . Sorry guys 1⭐️

The worst "mexican food" EVER. The chef should look for another job like construction or in a factory, the kitchen is not his cup of tea. The food was cold and way too salty. The tortillas were old and would break apart. They spilled water on my husband and they didn't even offer us a new table. Save your money and good to a taco truck.

Awesome food! Be sure to ask to see the flour bunker down below. It was created in 1870 for dry good storage.

Had dinner and drinks last night and I was extremely impressed! Cocktails were delicious and the food was simply amazing! Great flavors and was different twist on traditional Mexican food.

Food was way over priced, small portions and not authentic. Our waiter seemed so drugged up couldn’t understand anything he said. We asked him to split our bill and was told “it was too much work and takes a lot of time”. Our party was very dissatisfied.
