Happy Days

There are two things that the USA has gifted the world i always like to bring to light when speaking with my friends from around the world. #1 national parks. #2 the diner experience. If I could tell a foreigner how to have the best day in Maine I would probably say catch a sunrise at Acadia and a breakfast at Happy Days. Staff was incredibly nice. Food was as beautifully crafted as any diner should be. Simple comfort food that made my belly warm and full. Bottomless coffee. 10 gold stars

After a 30 minute wait, we were finally seated. Then the food managed to take an hour and a half to arrive. No food should ever take that long, especially breakfast. There were tables that sat after us that were gone before we even got our food. Furthermore, the server rarely came over to us so we were left with empty cups for much of our wait for the food. When it did arrive, it was apparent that the ingredients were frozen, not fresh. The eggs were preblended and from a carton. The whole dish lacked flavor. The entire restaurant could really use a deep cleaning every now and then. Im 19 and im pretty sure everything in there was older than me, including the dirt on the floor and the cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling. Some of the chairs were falling apart, and the decor was dated. There were a couple bookshelves with books about elvis and marilyn monroe and some pictures of old diners, and that's about it.

The food was ok. The outside of the building looks kinda run down and on the inside the walls are a vibrant puce green. It kind of looks like a leprechaun was murdered on the walls. We both ordered steaks, they only had one, so they lost a star. The one steak was amazingly cooked. We ordered a waffle and it tasted like crushed cereal was formed into a super soft waffle. It was entirely too sweet. Not my favorite thing in the world. I still have them three stars because the waitress was nice and the tables and floors were clean.
