Review Rain - Atlanta

Shaun Young
I’m often weary of Asian fusion restaurants that service sushi and another Asian cuisine, but Rain Thai and Sushi Bar does a solid job of both. I was motivated to try Rain after seeing Eater Atlanta name them as one of the 15 essential Thai restaurants in the city. It did not disappoint! The space itself is nice, and the service is always friendly and welcoming. Food comes out at the perfect pace. Highlights of the menu are the Curry Puffs, Crispy Vegetable Rolls and Panang Gyoza. All of the sushi I’ve tried has been fresh and well made. I love the Two Tower Sushi Roll and the Spider Roll. There’s plenty of free parking and never a wait. It’s the perfect spot to grab a good meal.

I love this place their presentation of food is beautiful. All of there food is fresh. Don't take long for the food to be to the table pleasant workers and the atmosphere is very pleasant. Love all of it. I would like to try everything they have LOL good food. You won't be disappointed .

Food was excellent. Very fresh, delicious sushi. *I would have given five stars across the board but there were two issues. One, their website says they take reservations, so it being a Sunday afternoon for a party of 6, my friend called and made one. Day of lunch, "we have no reservation", no acknowledgement, no apology, nothing. Then to accommodate us, they add a table to a booth by a window. Word of advice, don't sit in the sunroom during the summer, AC is non-existent. It's kinda difficult to enjoy coconut soup or a spicy curry dish.

For drinks we had two Voodoos, very refreshing fruity drinks. Appetizers were Shrimp in Blanket and the Tempura Sampler (two shrimp and vegetables) Mains were Pad See-U and the Super Rain Roll (comes with extra smoked salmon). The food and service (Treent, our server, was very helpful) was most excellent. However, if I had to do it again, I would have chosen the Valentine Roll, same as the Super Rain Roll, just that the salmon isn't smoked, more for my sushi taste bud liking. We have been frequent diners here through the years and consider this restaurant a favorite!

One of my favorite Thai/sushi spots. Generally come for a date night but this particular time it was a small gathering. They do not do reservations from what I was told but they were able to hold a larger table and seat me immediately without everyone being present. It was much appreciated. I ordered the Bagel Roll, chicken fried rice, and an ultimate margarita. For starters, crispy veggie spring rolls. FYI the spring rolls are spicy. I ended up ordering the Double Shrimp Roll and a side of fried rice to-go. I have food allergy, so be mindful of everything that is included in the fried rice. They can alter it to your liking. Our waiter was very prompt and attentive. He also had a great customer oriented attitude. I recommend this place to anyone. Side note, although I didn't get it this time, the lobster roll is delicious. I've included a picture as one of my friends ordered it and the picture looks amazing.

This is my absolute FAVORITE thing to order here...the lobster roll. I don't know if it's the lightly fried lobster meat or hint of avocado and asparagus. But, the combination of it all is a celebration for your taste buds. I had to order it to-go this time. However, the presentation of it while dining in is a masterpiece. If you like seafood, enjoy! 👌🏾

I’ve been coming here for years. Love it! Only one bad experience. But it wasn’t with the food it was with the server. But that’s one bad experience for at least 50 good ones. They always accommodate me with swaps in the dishes for vegetables I don’t like. Food is always good. My mother loved it here. I wish they had vegan plant based meat options.

Excellent and attentive service. One of the few restaurants that actually took the time to clean off a high chair to make sure it is clean and covid safe. The Thai food here is better than the sushi. The sushi tastes fine but the cut is WAY smaller/thinner than majority of sushi restaurants for about the same price. I would actually love to make this our go to spot but other sushi places have much thicker cuts of fish for the same price (as well as slightly better sauces and rolls. Hence, we will probably not go back. We usually order the same: one dish and two sushi rolls at other places and have leftovers to take home. But, we left the restaurant still hungry. The other thing we personally do not like are restaurants that only serve can soft drinks (vs fountain or bar gun). Please support this restaurant, especially if you are a light eater.

Been going here since the 90’s and it’s still one of the best Thai restaurants in the city. Always fresh. Great service. Nice selections. Very reasonable. Hard to find better Thai in Atlanta.

Our favorite restaurant! The food is great, and the atmosphere is so lovely and cozy. We always have our two year old with us and they are always patient and accommodating.

(This is a placeholder review on takeout until I dine-in for the full experience.) Broccoli in pad-see-ew was cooked to perfection. Vibrant green broccoli usually gives me the impression that vegetables are undercooked, but that wasn't the case here. It was beautifully colored AND cooked 🥦

Sushi was amazing. Tuna pizza was jaw dropping good. The fresh dumplings…so good. Price was a a little high but comparable to the area.

We stopped there for lunch because we were the whole morning at the mexican consulat close by. The food was really delicious, especially the appetizer grilled chicken with peanut sauce. The service and atmosphere can be improved...was a little bit too cold.

Been here for lunch a couple of times with a few colleagues and have always liked the food. Pretty good service, good atmosphere, quick and good tasting food, and not too expensive. What else can you ack for. Would definitely recommend to a friend...

I took my dad here for fathers day, he used to go there regularly with a friend a few years back. The manager immediately recognized him, and quickly seayed us and brought us salads on the house. Their food was always great and very reasonably priced, and still is

My wife and I came here on our first date and celebrate our 2nd anniversary there this year....this is a nice place for a date or a nice peaceful dinner with good company. The menu is split....Thai menu or sushi menu...I recommend it all the time....

We have always received excellent service and the food is delicious! When dining there we usually have large parties of 6 to 12 with family or friends and everyone has been very pleased. This last week we entertained family and friends visiting from London. We stayed an extra longer time trying to catch up with them and their children were enjoying playing in the back room where we were seated. The staff was very accommodating and allowed us to stay back there all by ourselves and enjoy our time! That was special!

I came all the way from Rhode Island for the best Thai food south of the Mason Dixon!

My favorite restaurant and the fried calamari and the combo fried rice is so good!

I'm from Seattle, so finding this place was pure joy. The sashimi is outstanding, as their other dishes. The service is amazing and they go out of their way to make the experience a good one.

Always delicious. Servers are really caring. Our favorite place for sushi!

Love this place...I visit Atlanta a few times a year and always make sure to eat here every visit.

Not a fan of this place. Not very fresh with fish. I’d try the multitude of good sushi places in the area. Management is rude and condescending in my experience. Will not be going back here. EVER! This is my only negative review

Great selections of sushi at affordable price. Thai food are excellent. Very friendly staff.
Overall, a great place to dine before or after the movies next door.

Don't attempt before the movies or you will be in front row of theater!. I should have known something was off with this restaurant when making a reservation was even a challenge! We made one for 4, changed it to 6 and when we arrived they didn't have the table and tried to avoid admitting their mistake. We all arrived by 6:25 and did not get our food until 7:25 - and were served one by one - with about 10 minutes from first person getting his meal until the last! The service is awful! They took so long that we wound up in the first row for our 7:45 movie next door. The food was okay, but not worth putting up with the service.
Cathy
Mediocre food at best. Sake is cold too! The worst part is their service! They were too worried about turning over a table to seat someone who just got here than taking care of the table that was already seated. Irritating! Get your priorities straight!

I dot usually write reviews of unpleasant experiences and I rarely complain but we have to share of awful service.

We were seated at the same time as another couple and they received water and they ordered and received wine before anyone came to our table. We got up and asked if our server was coming and sat back down. In all we waited 10 minutes with no one even acknowledging us. We actually got up and left and went down the street to Bangkok Thai and had amazing service and fantastic food!

Food above average; service below average. The food is generally good, but not quite deserving the overly effusive praise so many reviewers attach to restaurants they like. We've been here often enough over the past year to mention that the staff is often below expectations: not understanding orders; delivering the wrong dishes. Having said that, we go here somewhat regularly because we enjoy several of their dishes and recommend it for a pleasant meal.

One of my favorite Thai places in Atlanta. The Pad See Ewe and Pad Thai are excellent. The sushi is pretty good as well.

Excellent!!. One of the many restaurants I have been to with Doc .. The food and presentation of it is excellent here!! I am sucker for "photogenic dishes" and Rain definitely delivers .. I had the lobster roll and it was like nothing I'd ever seen before and an abundant amount of it .. The wine selection is superb and the sushi is great here!! I would highly recommend this place for those who love sushi .. We went during the Christmas holidays so the ambiance we great that night ..

Chad.... When I first arrived... (alone on business)... I got worried. it took a few minutes to seat me at the sushi bar... then it took more than a little while to ask for my drink order (no water while waiting either).. I was about to the point of walking out... and then finally someone took my drink order. I had the spice tuna pizza (minus the mayo sauce) and another roll that was tempura shrimp with avocado. They were outstanding.... the service also improved once I ordered..... I will go back when visiting atlanta.... the roll and "pizza" was way more than I could eat....

Meh.. Underwhelming to say the least. The food was edible, but not even approaching delicious. If you want good Thai, head about 2.5 miles due south to the always-excellent Ma Li in Virginia-Highlands.

We love it. A neighborhood gem. Food is always good and presented well. Service very good with polite Asian staff. Full bar service is also available. Beware of weekend nights when a popular movie is showing at Tara next door or you may not get in nor be able to park anywhere. When finished swing by Publix or organic market next door. They also have a semi-private back room for large groups, birthday gathering, etc. Energetic atmosphere. Nicely decorated.

I have been a huge fan of Rain since they first opened! It's classy, smart and chic! The sushi bar is one of the best in Atlanta. The best thing about Rain is it's not stuffy. I go there several times per month.
Lilypond
Quiet elegance. The wait staff was attentive and the sushi was good with a good quality fish. Sushi/sashimi lunch for 2 was $36 with tip.

THIS PLACE IS EXCELLENT!. Everything is beautifully prepared and placed on the plate. The vegetables and sushi are amazingly fresh. There is NO mystery meat, here...The chicken is freshly chopped and free of fatty and grissle, fish tastes fresh and not "fishy". My favorite entree is the Sweet & Sour Chicken over white rice (Thai Hot!). My favorite roll is the spider roll.

The staff is great! We Love Patti!

Delightful, delicious!. The food is exquisite . . . always an elegant little surprise! The service is personable and careful. What a delightful little neighborhood place! (Also a very easy way to have a good, healthy, quick dinner before or after a movie at Tara.)

The sushi here comes beautifully presented - even moreso than I find at many competitors in the metro area. It tastes as good as it looks.

Rain is a relatively new restaurant, about a year or so old. My friend Leslie recommended it and I was finally able to try it. It's at the corner of LaVista and Cheshire Bridge Road. It serve both Thai and sushi. The decor is tastefully modern. I started off with a vegetable spring roll. As you can see, the presentation of the food matches the modern decor. The dish was lovely and it tasted good, too. I'm a tuna nut so I went with the tuna lunch. The serving in the upper left was more of a Western salad style while the others were more traditional Sushi. The quality of the fish was very good and everything was very well prepared. 0 comments:

To celebrate several events including a very late birthday for one of the law partners in my office and my two year anniversary with the firm, we visited Rain, located in the Tara theater shopping plaza at the corner of Cheshire Bridge and LaVista. This i
