The food was so amazing. My very pretty drink was superb. My waitress? The worse! Were it not for the atmosphere (which was incredible) I would not return. It was very easy to find on the corner and the outside decor draws you in for the amazing inside decor. Almost perfect.
Excellent dining experience. I had the Beef Chile Relleno that our waitress recommended and it was delicious. The service was very fast. I have to compliment our waitress, Michelle. She was friendly, energetic, and kept my water glass and our other drinks full. She was one of the best waitresses we have ever had. Keep up the good work. I will definitely be back next time we are in town.
Back a second time and had the chicken tortilla soup. It was very delicious
Overall liked the place. Good location. Good drinks options. Tequila tour seemed really nice though I did go for recommended margarita and it was nice too. Cheese relleno could have used some veggies. Guac would have been nice and if I could replace refried beans with black beans. Other places are getting more accommodating of making such replacement so I am sure these guys will too. Overall, I recommend the place for a date, dinner with friends, or to have a family dining together.
The food was delicious and service was quick! Came in a larger group so 20% gratituity was added automatically to my bill, which normally would be ok since the service and food was great, but I'd appreciate being told before hand. I really enjoyed the southern Fried tacos as well! The self named drink was very good!
Escorpion is located in Midtown Atlanta and is part of the URestaurtant Group - Sotto Sotto, Fritti, and Nova Cucina is also in the URestaurant Group.
We went for our anniversary dinner the Friday before July 4th.
Location and Parking: located on Peachtree St NE at the corner of 5th St NE. It is a five-minute walk from the Fox Theater. Parking options: 1) Park on 5th ST NE. There is 8 or 9 City of Atlanta parking spots. Make sure you pay the automatic meter. This is how we parked. It is only $2 per hour. That is a bargain. One minute walk. 2) Valet parking at Escorpion. 3) Parking around the corner from Escorpion in a parking deck. Again a 1-minute walk. So parking is not an issue.
Outdoor patio: Escorpion has the largest outdoor seating in Midtown. See my pictures. It had already rained, and more rain was coming so we dined inside.
Indoor restaurant decor: Large bar with at least 6 TVs around the bar. A large indoor seating area with a lot of tables. They do have booths. You are greeted by a hostess when you walk in. The table already has cloth napkins and silverware when you get seated.
Food: They have tacos, fajitas, Antojitos (traditional Mexican appetizers).
We started with the Guacamole Al Molcajete. It was marvelous. Fresh avocado, onion, tomato, cilantro, lime, and chicharrones. If you haven't had chicharrones, you need to try this. They make it in the kitchen. I'm not a fan of restaurants that try to fool you with a 20-year-old making this at your table. Let the professionals make it. (see pictures). It is only $7. I will have this again when I go back.
Wife had fajitas. They were delicious (see picture). I had the Chicken Fried Taco and Fried Shrimp Taco. Shrimp $5 and Chicken was $4. The chicken fried taco was insanely excellent. You need to the fried chicken taco.
Alcohol: they have over 20 different Tequilas. They have Blanco, Reposado, and Añejos. I read about Fortaleza Tequila in Men's Journal magazine. It was our anniversary, so I tried it. It was great. BTW, quit drinking Tequilla like a cheap shot. You sip it. Go slowly. Don't use salt or lime either is my recommendation. Blanco is silver Tequila. Reposado tequilas are aged 2 to 12 months in oak barrels - gold. Añejos, which are aged 1 to 4 years. I had the Fortaleza Reposado. I recommend it. Next time I'm going to try Siete Lequas.
You can have a margarita made with any Tequila.
Beer: They have Victoria, Pacifico, Corona, Tecate, XX Amber and XX Lager, and Negra Modelo and Modelo Especial. I recommend either Victoria or Pacifico. I went with Victoria.
Other info: the lemonade is fresh squeezed. Wife said it was delicious.
Server and Staff: The ole lady had a question about the Guacamole Al Molcajete before we ordered. Our server, Abby, went and found a guy to answer our question. He came out and told us how they make it and use wheat to make the Chicharrones. It turns out the guy was the Director of Operations for the four restaurants and happen to be at Escorpion that night. I was impressed someone at that level would take the time to explain a menu item. That's excellent service.
Abby the server was great. We didn't have to ask for anything. The manager came over and checked on us twice.
Two must try items from my experience: the chicken fried taco and the Guacamole Al Molcajete.
Would I go again? Absolutely!
Other info: Families are welcome. We saw one family with a 7 or 8-year-old. I wouldn't recommend families going after 10 pm on a Friday or Saturday night. You would be welcomed but there probably a lot of couples, and single people out partying after 10 pm in Midtown.
Fox Theater: I recommend you try Escopion but plan your visit when the Fox theater, which is a 5-minute walk down the road, is not letting out of a show. You don't want to arrive when mamma mia let out 15 minutes before. The place will be packed.
Dog-friendly: Midtown has a lot of dog owners, and I think the outdoor seating is dog-friendly.
Great space, great waitstaff and the food was pretty awesome. They even got us free churro and those things are amazing!!! They even provided good parking! I love it! It was an all-round great experience
Laid back atmosphere in the middle of Midtown's hustle and bustle. Good salsa. Tacos Pastor were tasty. Beans were good, pablano cole slaw was too sweet for my taste. Good margaritas. Service was friendly. Overall a good time. I will return.
I’ll have to admit I was skeptical of having a great experience in a Midtown restaurant (a lot of places take advantage of the fact that they’ll always be busy because of location, so don’t necessarily have to stand out with food or service). We were pleasantly surprised from start to finish! I have worked in hospitality my whole life in a variety of capacities from corporate to cashier, and have seen the absolute worst to the very best, as a reference point.
Found street parking right away next to Trace Apartments at 10:30 PM and didn’t have to pay, but street parking is paid every day except Sundays until 10 PM. I don’t know if there is a garage nearby that offers validation.
We were immediately greeted by a male host who, with a server, happily began pulling tables together when we asked for our party of six to be seated in the bar area. I expected us to be an inconvenience but he treated us like expected guests with a reservation. Excellent start!
Our server Jonny (no H lol) was exceptional. He introduced himself, made sure we had waters and chips/salsa right away while we waited for our margaritas. He even updated us when the bar was backed up at one point and thanked us for our patience. There are SO FEW PLACES who think of the guest enough to just let us know what’s going on when things don’t go exactly as expected, so I was blown away by that. We weren’t in a rush anyway, but it was such a nice gesture.
He bantered with us throughout the meal and patiently, knowledgeably helped the guys decide what tequila shots to order, explaining differences across brands.
Food was good. I could have probably done without whatever was sweet in the enchiladas but it was filling. I split it with a friend, as we weren’t that hungry. We also had the queso fundido which was absolutely out of this WORLD 😍 And some of the best chips and salsa I’ve ever had at a Mexican food restaurant (I’m from Arizona so that’s saying a lot).
Jonny was prompt to retrieve and process our *separate* checks at the end of the night (which can often be annoying for servers of course; he didn’t communicate that he minded) and kindly wished us a good evening. He was really what made our experience special, as well as Will the bartender. Didn’t have the opportunity for him to serve us but, in line with everyone else who helped us last night, he was extremely friendly and conversational as we were on our way out. I hope to come back to join him at the bar for some drinks next time.
You can get tequila and Mexican food at a lot of places but I would absolutely come back just for the service. You must check out Escorpion!
This food was amazing! Nice ambiance. Highly recommend. We visited before going to the theater. Great choice. They take reservations also.
Very nice atmosphere especially on the weekends. Food is really good too! Drinks were okay but the service was great!
Ordered the family size Fried Fish and Carne Asada tacos. Tacos and sides tasted great, service was on point too. Would come again if I ever come back to the city.
Tacos are great. Fried shrimp, carne asada, fried chicken, gringo.... the list goes on. Delicious, with a street taco feel. Interesting drink list. Nice patio seating in good weather. Pretty spacious bar inside. Gets a little loud on the weekends with the live music. Cool atmosphere!
Great food and atmosphere. Being from California, it's difficult to find great Mexican food. It hit the spot and the experience was not boring. Our server was fantastic also.
Ahhhhhh, another great experience making me feel like Atlanta isn’t a total culinary and service wasteland! The chips and salsa are super happy yum time. The tacos are unique and flavor flavor dang diggity. The tequila flight is priced just right and whoop whoop! The service was on point as well.
Escorpión is always great. I loved when they had brunch. The dinners are good too. I got three tacos (Tinga, Al pastor, Carnitas). The best one was the carnitas and the worst one was tinga. I didn’t like the sauce on the tinga one. The al pastor was good but the pineapples were in huge chunks. Cut them up and make them bite size.
First visit and I was impressed with the food and atmosphere... only issue was the edit staffs attention to detail... you bring drinks but no straw and it took minutes for you to come back... and it took even longer after telling you... and it wasnt a full house. None the less I will return because the food was awesome. A la carte tacos and the ceviche was perfect!!
Love this place. I usually get the taco plate which comes with 2 tacos and 2 sides. I highly recommend that. I also recommend their tinga quesadilla. It’s a bit spicy but pretty good.
Their chips and salsa are always delicious.
