Review Ray's On The River - Atlanta

Kelsea Lozada
This as the best celebratory meal I have ever hosted. My husband graduated and wanted a no fuss steakhouse. I made a reservation through OpenTable easily and was able to add in that we were celebrating a milestone. We arrived (note that there is valet available) and the decor for the holidays was beautiful. I had requested outdoor/window seating to enjoy the view of the river and the hostess made sure to review my request and accommodate accordingly. Once seated, Brianna was a lovely waitress - soft spoken and efficient. She was patient with us ordering as it was our first time. Food was delicious and arrived quickly. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the sides were great sizes for sharing as well! I would definitely return for our anniversary!

We went to Ray’s on the River for our anniversary. We were seated immediately (we had reservations) our server was Connor and he was EXCELLENT! We started with the fried calamari, they didn’t over cook it, & it was delicious! Sometimes the stars align and everything just works perfectly. We had their special (flame grilled ribeye with the Oscar topping, scallops, and fried lobster tail (that was Connor’s recommendation, which turned out perfectly. My steak was supposed to be medium well, but arrived a little overcooked. However, the steak must have been aged some as it still very tender. The meal was excellent. Connor brought wine to the table, but after one sip, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to finish it. He was VERY gracious and asked if he could get me something else. I ordered the Sangria (which also wasn’t good) I did apologize (profusely) and Connor was really good natured about it. He suggested a lemon drop, which turned out to be quite good. (I thought I took a pic of it, but after checking my photos 🤷🏼‍♀️

Make a reservation if it's important to you to eat here, as they are seemingly always busy! We finally had the chance to eat here for our Christmas Eve Eve dinner after using OpenTable to make a reservation and got seated at a table with a view. The server was friendly and knowledgeable, and the views were gorgeous. My husband ordered his steak medium and it came out well done. He ate it rather than sending it back. The truffle fries were just okay compared to lots of others I've had and loved; I wouldn't order them again. My 13 year old son ate the lobster Mac and cheese as his meal and loved it. We'd definitely return to this specific location in the distant future.

Rays is phenomenal. 2nd time here. Make a reservation, even for a Tuesday night at 8pm..they are busy! From the food to the atmosphere..Just a great spot for date night and or celebrating a special occasion. I even proposed to my fiancee here 3 years ago! Love Rays!

Amazing experience from start to finish! The sweet bartender made us a mocktail made with fresh berries and ginger beer. She didn’t charge us for my hubby’s drink since it was his birthday, which started our dinner off to a good start. We were sat at our table and David was an amazing server with impeccable service. Dishes came out delicious and nicely presented. I still dream about the dessert that he recommended. He turned me into a Lemon Butter Cake fan! Although it was already dark outside, it was still such a beautiful view of the river glistening with all the string lights around the area. Even the valet attendants were so pleasant and nice. Huge plus for having complimentary parking. We will be back again!

The restaurant was able to accommodate our party of 12, which was a plus. The dinning room was cozy & the view was beautiful. The food was simple amazing! Great price for the amount of food. The staff was wonderful! My family and I had an amazing time. I have no complaints. I would definitely recommend!

I am visiting family and friends in Atlanta. This place is so amazing and the food was delicious. The restaurant by the river is an amazing view. Devant e was an excellent waiter. Explain everything to us like we royalty. Chauntel was the other waitress who was sweet and kind. Also very helpful. Now to the food. I had the shrimp and grits!!! OMG, the flavor was excellent. My friend had broil seafood platter. The seasoning was fabulous. The appetizer was great as well, and the sweet potatoes were great. The dessert was delicious as well. I will be returning to eat there again.

My husband brought me here as a surprise for my 30th birthday and I couldn’t have asked for a better night! Our server Austin was attentive and spread great energy through the whole section. We were lucky enough to be seated next to another couple who we had great conversation with. The food was amazing (especially the she crab soup, trout, and espresso martini’s). We can’t wait to comeback!

We came here for anniversary and the experience was great! I like that they have many options of oysters and describe how each of them taste like… Appetizers and seafood are great! The only thing that I would pick on is the grill mark on the steak. I order medium rare and some edges are quite burn to a bit bitter. I understand it’s part of the look and plating. However, that should not affect the overall flavor of the steak.. But majority of the steak is still good. We had a great time.

We attended a wedding reception at Ray's. The setting was very beautiful and private. All service staff were extremely friendly and the food was excellent. There were several preselected meal options available. I had the Ray's salad, 16oz Ribeye (medium). My wife had the seafood trio (lobster tail, salmon, and shrimp). Sides were Mac n cheese and seasonal vegetables.

Lovely setting but slow service for lunch. The steak salad was good but not great. Daddy had the horseradish encrusted grouper and loved it. The lobster risotto and truffle mashed potatoes were excellent. I would definitely visit again although I think it’s pricey and the quality could be elevated.
Wine Dine And Play
Fantastic scenery overlooking the Chattahoochee River, great wine list but a pricy menu. They also have a location downtown called Rays in the City.

Wonderful!! Impeccable service, starting as soon as you arrive! It was raining and the valet came to our car with a huge umbrella! The menu includes fresh fish and aged beef options (and vegetarian options). Perfect for an intimate dinner or group special event.

We went with a party of five (after a reservation for 6) because when I called at 3:30pm to ask if they could accommodate +2 , I was told they were full and could not accept two more. Well, there were plenty of empty tables.<br/>Now to the food, the prime rib seemed to be a hit, but my grilled fish was over cooked, and over seasoned especially salt, and one diner sent back the strip steak special as "too much gristle and fat to eat". Not normal in a strip steak.<br/>The atmosphere was nice, and I'm sure the river view is pleasant in the daytime, but I don't think I'll be returning to find out.

The food was good and our waitress was excellent. The reason for the 2 review is due to the following. <br/>Hostess claims all seats were full and put us on a 45min wait even though we had a reservation. This was unacceptable so my wife and I decided to sit in the bar area. We proceeded to enjoy beverages and decided to order apps and our entree. <br/>All was fine until the hostess came up to us in front of other patrons and employees to tell us we had a reservation and couldn't eat in the bar area. We laughed that off and told her to go discuss it with her supervisor. To our surprise, she actually must of gone to her management because this quirky little fella came over to question us regarding our reservation. Never a good idea to question customers in front of its staff or its customers as to why you decided to eat at a bar area vs waiting 45 min for a table. So, I quickly explained to this little man that questioning my intent was probably not in his best interest. I quickly redirected his unprofessional style and suggested he question his and his hostesses approach. <br/>Good luck Rays but you will not earn my nor my clients business anymore.

The cold seafood appetizer is amazing. Try also the horseradish crusted grouper. <br/><br/>Excellent service and wonderful ambience<br/><br/>This was my first visit to Ray's, but it will be a must visit every time I'm back in town.

Service. My daughter and I decided to dine at Ray's On The River. We were seated and our server, came over, introduced himself and provided uswith menus. Because this was our initial visit, we weren't sure about how to order exactly what we wanted, their specialty items, favorite items or anything. <br/>My daughter explained what she wanted, as did I.<br/>As we were being served, Matt was addressing another group that had been seated. He asked them whether or not this was their initial visit or if they had been there before. He welcomed them back and he proceeded to inform them of menu items and made them privy to information that we were not made privy to.<br/>After their order was taken, Matt came to our table and asked how everything looked. I informed him that everything look great, but that I felt slighted because we weren't given the information that the other party received. Matt stammered for a moment, then he informed me that it wasn't his intention to make me feel slighted. He asked, "What do you want me to do?" I was on the verge of tears and didn't want to be emotional, I simply shook my head. He left the table and a manager came over shortly thereafter. <br/>I explained that we had driven almost 60 miles from my home in McDonough, passing several restaurants I love to dine at Ray's On The River and I was saddened that Matt didn't feel inclined to at very least, provide me with the information he had given other patrons, without a legitimate reason why. <br/>She apologized that I was crying and that I was made to feel the way I did. She offered a free dessert to make it right. I advised her that I appreciated the offer, but a piece of cake would not make things better. I would pay for my drink, salad and my daughter's meal.<br/>The waiter did box the meal that I did not eat and gave it to me. Although I went prepared to pay for all that we consumed, I appreciated the take home meal. However, I do not intend to dine again, at Ray's On The River and I will share my experience with Ray's On The River.

Not with the effort. Expecting a quality dining experience, I dined at Rays on the River. It was less than impressive. Understaffed, undertrained and undercooked, my meal and overall experience was overpriced and overrated. I should have stuck with my original choice of a good rib joint

Was the chef cleaning out the pantry for Sunday brunch?. Let me preface by saying Rays in the City is our go-to spot for dining when we are in Atlanta to the point that our hotel selection is determined by its proximity to Rays. Sunday we were in Roswell and decided to treat ourselves to Rays on the River for brunch. It was a terrible disappointment. The scrambled eggs were dry, food was not being replaced in a timely manner, they ran out of plates and bowls, and everything looked like cafeteria food. The eggs Benedict (when they finally replaced the empty pan) looked like they had gone to McDonalds, thrown away the top half of the Egg McMuffin and added a dollop of hollandaise. The highlight was a very tasty salmon mousse but there were no crackers or toast points at the station to eat it on. The bathroom was not clean at noon on Sunday and they were almost completely out of amenities if you consists toilet tissue an amenity and not a necessity. We will not be going back to that Rays!

Quite Disappointed. It had been many years since we had been to Ray's. Unfortunately it will be many years again. Was really looking forward to a nice evening with my wife and daughters. But the food was mediocre. The bread basket was probably the best part of the meal. The scallops were a rip off at $34 for 3 "colassal" scallops. That's right, 3. And I can't even say they were well prepared. My daughter (24) is a crab cake maven. She left 1/3 of it on the plate. The filet portion of my surf and turf was a good portion but rather dull in its flavor and texture. The waiter told us they use an 1800 degree double grill to "seal in the flavor and juices". The steaks I grill at home at 550 are muxh better. The service was quite average. I was never offered a steak knife. The appetizer and salad plates were left on the table when the entrees arrived. And the young server practically threw the entrees at us. He was clearly in a bad mood. Sorry Ray's but you really let us down. We will not return nor recommend. Truly one of the least memorable dinners out we have had in years.

We had reservation and arrived on time, but had to wait 40 minutes to be seated. After being seated it took the waiter 10 minutes just to acknowledge us and bring water. It took another 10 minutes for him to come back and take our order. At this point I asked for bread because I was starving! 15 minutes after placing my order the waiter comes back to say that they have run out of what I ordered and to choose something else! Still no bread in sight. At this point it was an hour and 15 minutes past the original reservation and we had to get up and leave in order to make it to our next event. I wish I had been able to taste the food, but in all that time all I got was water.

A Great Night. Had another great night at Ray's on the River...the menu isn't as inventive as Canoe but the live music and exceptional service (thanks, Amanda!) make up for that. Enjoyed the chopped salad, spicy black eyed pea soup with pork belly croutons and lemon cheesecake with raspberry coulis. All delicious. Setting is beautiful. Comfortable but romantic. A great special occasion place or just a nice Saturday night out.

Great Sunday Brunch. My Wife , Son, and Daughter-in-Law went to Ray's on the River earlier today for Sunday Brunch. It was a most enjoyable time with good food, good service and a great view of the Chattahoochee River. <br/><br/>The Sunday Brunch is predominately an all you can eat buffet and a very extensive buffet it is. Can't speak for everyone else but I had prime rib, shrimp, mussels, Eggs Benedict, Quiche Lorraine, Smoke Salmon, Stone Crab and more and even then, I only got to sample about a third of the items offered. For deserts, Cheese Blintz with Raspberry Sauce is very good and the NY Style Cheesecake is probably the best I have found in the Atlanta area.<br/><br/>For price and quality, this rivals anything you will find on the strip district in Vegas and right off of I-285 North just east of I-75. <br/><br/>Not cheap but again you get what you pay for and this is definately well worth the price. Arrive early, arrive hungry, be prepared to experience a variety of culinary delights and you will find, it's definately well worth the experience.

OUTSTANDING!!. I absolutely love this restaurant, The valet parking attendants were very gracious and went out of their way to help my elderly dinner companion out of the car, without rushing us. They made sure that we were underneath the canopy as the ground was wet and they wanted to make sure that my dinner companion did not slip on the wet pavement. I had called ahead and made reservations so that we would be able to have the best view of the river and the hostess walked with us rather then ahead of us as some do. She wanted to keep pace with us and made it a point to have conversation on the way to our table. The waiter was very considerate and let us order a dish they serve that is not on the lunch menu. he was very attentive and came back several times to make sure that we were satisfied with our selection. THE FOOD! absolutely superb! The Salmon Oscar is so delicious that even when you get full you are unable to stop eating because it is so flavorful! This is definitely a wonderful place for a dinner for two and they have the ability to handle large groups with ease as well. I highly recommend Rays and can hardly wait for my next time there!

We went for Sunday brunch and boy let me tell you, the food was soooo good! Our server was great and they have a huge selection of food to choose from. It's a bit pricier than we expected but we had a great experience so it was worth it to us. The only thing I would complain about is that it's not advertised that there's a business casual dress code and we walked in with our "travel clothes" on and had to go back to the car to change. Then once we were seated we saw people walking around in jeans and t-shirts. Wasn't sure why we couldn't just eat in what we had on then, but either way it was a fantastic experience otherwise.

Nothing exciting about Rays!. After years of hearing the hype about Ray's on the River, I finally went to there to have dinner. Upon arrival the atmosphere was beautiful but once I went in, I was not greeted by the hostess with the thin out brunette hair (Sorry did not catch her name that is how terrible she did her job). I was very disappointed at how unkind she was but I wanted to give Ray a chance without letting her ruin my dining experience. As this women sits us at a table she inconveniently sits us down at a lower level knowing that I came to dinner with my sleeping baby in a stroller. The hostess was insensitive and use half of her brain cell that evening. Adam the waiter was polite but our food took an hour after ongoing conversations, appetizers and water before it came. The long awaited dinner was unseasoned dry organic farm chicken with unseasoned mashed potatoes and few green beans stalks. My friend's salad had great presentation and she loved it! after receiving our food, the same thin brunette hostess came in with dinner guests and wanted to sit them right behind us in a cramped booth seated corner and rudely stated that she needed to get over there! I am not sure what was it that lead Mike the manager to hire such a unfriendly hostess but I so hope she was going through something because her attitude was unacceptable. Overall, the service was poor and the food was dry and bland. The bill was decent, the waiter was nice, our table was perfect and the river view was breathtaking!!! on a scale of 1 through 10, I give them a 6! Bottom line, it is high priced and the food is bland & average unless you get seafood. This will be my last visit. I wrote this review to help someone save their money for better quality food and perhaps try fine food elsewhere like Pappaduex seafood dining. Thank you for reading.

Still Good. Oh my! I haven't been here since 2001 (not sure why). Shame on me. The food was delicious. 2 of us had the Canadian Salmon Oscar. One person had the Salmon Oscar (dfnrt from Cndn Slmn Oscar). One person had the Lobster special. We all shared the calamari aptzr. Everyone raved about how good the food was. I didn't have anything leftover to take home (which is unusual for me-lol). Oh and the Raspberry Jalapeno Margarita was delish too. I will not let so much time pass without going back again. Our server was very attentive, nice, friendly and patient.

Don't waste your time - once a fav - now a cheap, poor quality, rude restaurant with an awesome view.. Living on past laurels from 1984, the food has become careless and overcooked with the staff pushing you out the door to fill the next seating that they overbooked. People come with great expectations and memories of a once wonderful venue and leave bewildered with the lack of quality, freshness, and class from a once renowned Sunday Brunch. Staff should be instructed not to carry their smartphones into the dining room. Don't be afraid to speak your concerns as your possibly less than expected experience is not unique and uncommon as you may think. ROTR needs a quality and attitude check as the returning crowd that has supported Rays since 1984 deserves and expects better. Good luck all as Rays is no longer your sure bet.

Fathers Day brunch. We went to brunch on Fathers Day and as usual the food was great! However the service was terrible. Our waiter never asked us how we were doing or if we needed anything. But everybody around use he waited on he even provided wipes to tables around us and if anyone needed wipes we did with three kids. I came to the conclusion that he was not kid friendly. This experience has really made me consider if I will be going back... :(

Easter Buffet was great. I was very stuffed after the Easter Buffet because I wanted to try everything. They had Mussles, Whisky Pork, Swordfish, Lamb, Prime Rib, Salmon, Glazed Ham and a ton more stuff too. About half the dishes were phenomenal and the other half were just ok but with all those offerings you can have an amazing meal there. I will be back.

Every time I have been to Ray's I have had a fabulous experience. Awesome food flavor and presentation. Great service and delightful atmosphere and scenery. Excellent place for any kind of gathering, date, meeting, family or social experience.

Awesome. Fish is always fresh!! Love the atmosphere..

We love Rays on the River and make it our choice anytime we are in Atlanta. We have only experienced the Sunday buffet.... overwhelmingly AWESOME!! How can it be described... fresh waffles, salads you have never thought of, Mimosas, omelets with all the additions created right in front of you, bottomless bowl of fresh shrimp and often seasonal variations added to the buffet table, and my favorite... Rays own variation on Eggs Benedict with capers and lox(salmon)!!! Oh... my... HEAVENS!!!! The view is gorgeous and the atmosphere is very peaceful and relaxing. The wait staff do not hurry you along and wisk you out as you are still savoring your last bite (pet peeve). However, I agree that the offering of beverage refills is somewhat lacking (this is an industry-wide faux pas) but we all have a voice so just ask. In defense of the wait staff, I have the impression that they are harried and pushing to give service, not chit-chat. Every time we have been, the place has been PACKED!! If you hate to wait, reservations are an absolute MUST for the Sunday brunch!
Emma
WOW!. My friends and I decided to try somewhere different for Friday night get together. ROTR was an excellent choice. Beautiful garden setting on the river, excellent food and service. Great drinks and live music. Yummy desserts. We had a great time and we will be back.

Ray's is a very nice elegant restaurant however the service was horrible. It took us 45 minutes to get our food. The waiter didn't bother to come back after we got our food at least not until it was time to pay (he was all smiles then). The food was ok but not what we expected considering the price.
Mommyof2
Easter Brunch Bust!. This was our second Brunch at Ray's and our last! It took us 35 minutes just to get into the parking lot. We did have reservations and were seated fast. The cost for the brunch was $39.99 per adult; the food did not reflect that price. I think Sweet Tomato had a better buffet and cheaper. This brings me to the service....HORRIBLE!!! We were only asked for one drink when we sat down, we wanted to finish with coffee but after sitting and waiting for about a half hour it was no longer worth it. I also feel as if the clientele has slipped, I think an establishment with these prices should enforce some sort of dress code. Flip flops, belly tanks, gym shoes and cut off shorts is not what I was looking for on Easter with a tab of $186.00. If you want to spend money go to a nice restaurant and enjoy good service and food you want. Ray's is slipping!
PaulB
It all came together here.... The live jazz, great service, great food and a river outside the window all worked together to make a lovely evening. The waiter was great in helping us pick out some of the better dishes. We had the scallops on risotto and grouper, if you are curious. On the expensive side, but sometimes you need something that ju8st hits the spot.
Jimdandyjovi
Perfect!!!. I've been here at least 5 times with large groups. Everything is always perfect. Great service, great food, and great time for all. Seafood and steak both rock!!!
Pinny
Avoid this investment. Felt that my return on my investment fell short. it'll cost you, and if you're going to dump a lot of coin, better have a great experience. But it wasn't. Service wasn't there. Food was fine, but could match that at places that are less expensive.
Tia
Overhyped Bland. On May 1st 2011, we ate cheap sausages , eggs and continental brunch items. What a waste of time and money ! Patrons wore jeans, shorts, low cut tops that were worthy of hooters. We went expecting a delicious brunch and instead it was like breakfast at a boring hoochy hotel. Where was the exceptional meat and seafood ?
Dan A Aldridge III
Fresh Fish. I have been to Ray's many times and it is always good, as long as you stick to the basic fresh fish dishes. The other more inventive items and land going fare is fine, but the sauces and ingredients sometimes mask the fish/chicken/meat. Their simple grilled or sauteed fish is full of flavor and the sauce comes on the side so you can dtermine how much to add. They get their fish flown in twice daily and it's stored in aspecial cooler so it's never frozen. They usualyy have at least 7-10 varieties to choose from, and the scallops are also a nice choice. The restuarant itself is rather large with a spacious lounge area and private dining rooms. If you go during daylight hours be sure and request a window seat or a seat with a river view, as this is what makes this place a little different from the other seafood joints. It is a little pricey, but you have to remember what you're paying for; if you want reviously frozen, farm raised tilapia for $7 then maybe Red Lobster would be more to your liking... <br/>Read more reviews @atlfoodsnob.com

Anti-Climactic, Over-exagerated. Last evening my husband and I, along with another couple, visited this establishment. I called earlier in the week to make the reservation at which time I was told, (unsolicited), that the dress code was business casual. We arrived on time, were greeted by friendly hostesses, and shown to the lounge where our friends were waiting. Nice atmosphere with piano and bass player in the background. We were shown to our table which included an amazing view of the river and introduced to our waitress and her assistant who quickly created a friendly rapport with our group. We noted several people clad in jeans and one gentleman in only shorts and flip-flops. (Business casual?)<br/> My husband asked for the wine list and ordered 2 wines for the table; the 2007 Banfi Classico Reserve and a Petite Sirah. They came back with the Petite Sirah but something other than the Chianti we had ordered. When my husband noted it was not the wine he had ordered, the waitress quickly stated, "this is the wine you pointed to". Since we heard him state Banfi Classico Reserve when he was pointing, we didn't understand this comment. She went away and came back only to tell us they were out of the Banfi. He then asked for the Robert Mondavi Merlot which, consequently, they were also out of. Another gentleman approached the table telling us the wine she had brought was their best recommendation. As a side note, we are accustomed to the mark up on wines but their pricing seemed a little more than normal. The 2007 Banfi Classico Reserve was listed for $58 per bottle; we purchased it today at Total Wine for $14.97; more than 3 x an increase. We then proceeded to the menu where we ordered a bone-in Ribeye to split at the modest price of $50. We have done this at both Cabernet and Stoney River for approximately $42 and found the cuts of meat to be much more flavorful and less fatty. The seasoning was bland at best. Normally, we are happy to pay more for a memorable experience with great ambiance and exceptional service, but Rays did not meet our expectations during this visit. A nice view before dark does not supercede an overpriced, out of stock menu with bland food and rude service. We will not be returning for an encore.

A Treat for Brunch. When my daughter was accepted to UGA, we celebrated with brunch at Ray's on the River.<br/><br/>Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? Well -- every once in a while it's fun to splurge. We made a reservation and told the attendant we'd wait for a table on the river. The setting was beautiful, which added to the meal's ambience, especially since it was snowing.<br/><br/>Everything that we tried on the buffet line was good. There is a wide array of items including lovely little petit four-sized samplings desserts. <br/><br/>We walked out stuffed and happy, thinking that we'd indeed return.

I've been misled about Rays. Some call it nice. Some say the service is good. Look people, if you think that you really need to get out more. The bar scene is dead. Their cocktail list us uninteresting. The menu is overpriced. The wine list is too expensive and nothing unique there, Just the usual. So go ahead. Go. Rays will be fine, but fir the price you can do much, much better.

Tasteless food. I don't even think it was grouper!

My wife and I love this place! Go in the evenings-- the food and service is excellent. Depending on where in the restaurant you are seated, the dining experience will be completely different. Let the hostess know if you want a quite table, or if you want to be near the entertainment. Good food, good music, great times...

Two words. Sunday brunch!

Absolutely wonderful! From server to food. Have been many times before & will enjoy many more meals with friends. The $35 specials are so good, as are the wine specials. Will be back soon!

Color me unimpressed.... Brunch was subpar to say the least. Many of the (hot) items were lukewarm or cold, other items bland. Blah. Not worth the price, that's for sure.

The Celebration that Wasn't. This was my first visit back to Ray's since the big remodel and I'm sorry to say that I wasn't impressed. The colors are much too dark so much so that I could barely read the menu! The menu prices seem higher than before (no doubt to pay for the renovations) but the quality is lacking in all respects. Of the three waiters that attended us, Nathan was the most helpful. I had the chicken which was bland and uninspiring, with sweet potato slices that were actually bitter! Oh and by the way, I got TWO stalks of asparagus!!<br/><br/>The menu selection is poor (especially the appetizers) and customer satisfaction seems to be an afterthought. I used to come here all the time in the mid 90's and early 2000 but I doubt that I will EVER come back! I sat there the whole night wishing I'd gone to Houston's!!!
GaPeach913
Disappointed. I was with a party of 5 on 9/28/09 and was very disappointed with the service and food. The first waiter neglected us to serve the large corporate party next to us. We asked for 3 separate checks, but received 1 combined check. The computers crashed, so we had to wait 30 minutes to get our checks as requested. The sweet potatoes were hard and bitter. The mashed potatoes tasted like instant. The prime rib had too much gristle. I have always enjoyed Sunday brunch, but dinner was very disappointing.

OUr Experience at Ray's 8-15-09. Horrible . . . Absolutely disgustingly Horrible!! There were 7 of us - three couples and a single woman. My husband from the first moment told the waiter we wanted separate checks. When the first course came, the waiter asked ' who ordered what'. The salads got all confused. We had to wait for bread and were told 'they were making more'. We had to ask for water. When the appetizers were through, no one cleared the table and when the main courses appeared again, who gets this?, who gets that?. And we still had dirty dishes on the table from the appetizers. The attitude of the help was 'we don't care.' Now, mind you, we had several restaurant and advertising people amongst this group. Our daughter and son-in-law own and are the Photographers for FLAVORS Magazine. Another young lady works for the Sunday Paper and formerly had spent 20+years at Creative Loafing. Her husband owns "The Flying Biscuit'. And yet another lady owns "The Entertainment Guide'. We WILL be in touch with the owner and our friends.<br/><br/>One of the entrees had three flimsy pieces of asparagus as a side order which cost $8.00. When we spoke with a manger, he said, 'oh'. No one came to the table to ask if we were satisfied. There is much more as to how poor the service was, but in the end we all had only one bill. Not separate bills as we requested. We all had many different prices of meals. But, in order to alleviate us having to decipher who had what, the three men just split the bill three ways. We ended up paying $25 more than we had ordered just to accommodate the evening. WE WILL NEVER, EVER go back to Rays again. And, we will certainly follow up tomorrow with more complaints to the owner who is a very good friend of one of the gentlemen at the table.

Great for brunch. Omelette station is good. wide selection of salads and breakfast items. also has lunch selections. good restaurant for seafood lovers. nice romantic setting w a view overlooking the river.

Yeah, "OK" about sums it up.. I have to say that I went for lunch, so take that in to account. I have a feeling this place shines during dinner service, so I'll gladly revise my review if I go back after 5pm.<br/><br/>The place itself is great, but a tad bit sterile. It's not welcoming at first glance - more like a nicely decorated OR. I prefer warm colors, fabrics, furniture, etc. and this place was visually, literally, a sea of grey and hard surfaces.<br/><br/>I sat at the bar and my server/bartender was very attentive and kind (even though he talked about how much he loved Bill O'Reily and Shaun Hannity). Regardless, he was on top of things and service was top-notch.<br/><br/>Started with the fried green tomatoes which were very tasty and quick - they literally came out about 2 minutes after I ordered them. Makes me think they were zapped or premade? They didn't taste like either, so it was fine with me.<br/><br/>Moved on to the special which was fish and chips - delicious. The cod was flakey, light, tasty. The fries were crispy, housemade, gone. <br/><br/>Got out for less that $25 which really surprised me. I thought it would be much more expensive, so kudos! But, like I said, not sure what dinner would be like.<br/><br/>Overall, good experience, although it felt old regardless of the age of the young hostess, server, bartender, etc. It's just one of those established places, i.e. City Grill, Bones, Chops. Maybe it has a jumpin' bar scene at night - I don't know - mature men and younger women mingling in a soup of possibility? <br/><br/>Bottom line - I'd go back. Glad I tried it and look forward to giving it a whirl for dinner.

Very Nice. Amazing. Recently visited for a loved one's birthday brunch. THE best eggs benedict I have ever had. While it is pricey, it's worth the cash. Renovations are beautiful as well.

Nice. Very nice atmosphere, the food was great and we had a great Easter Sunday there. Much improved from the old Ray's before the renovations.

I came here for Easter Brunch. They had a very large buffet with some phenomenal offerings. Mussles, Whisky Pork, Swordfish, Lamb, Prime Rib, Salmon, Glazed Ham and many accompaniments to these offerings.  Some of the offerings such as Prime Rib and Whiskey Pork were phenomenal.

Ray’s on the River is an award-winning restaurant which has been a staple in Sandy Springs since 1984. Business-casual attire is required to enter the restaurant. They offer live music, fresh seafood, fine wine, an award-winning Sunday Brunch, event hosting and so much more. Entrees range from $31 - $50 and they offer a $10 lunch menu during weekdays.

Last night was my first time at Ray's, the occasion being a dinner for our distinguished guest Janak Patel.  Don't confuse this with the Hawaiian Ray's.  Ray's on the River is a local destination restaurant on the north side of town.  It's actually on the Chattahoochee River, unlike some restaurants I've been to who misappropriate bodies of water for their names. I must admit that I was a little skeptical at first.  The restaurant publicized its three course dinner, which included steak with root beer sauce.  I consider such things to be stunt cooking, particularly in the South, where the standard for soft drink-based sauces is Coca-Cola. Our Maytag potato chips were well executed.  My wedge salad was a little disappointing.  The dressing was thin.  While this is a valid choice, I prefer the decadence of a thick dressing for this dish. My steak, however, was excellent.  I had the filet mignon, which had just a touch of crust on the edge to add flavor.  The Yukon gold mashed potatoes we

The first year [Buddha aside: that was approx 1986], it was pretty good, but downhill after that. Well — they bought the real estate and Ray finally spent the money for a much needed slick remodel. Simon and I went for lunch last week. I had not been ther
