Review Murphy's Restaurant - Atlanta

Kai Simmonds
Unfortunately we just missed brunch, but thankfully lunch was great. Our first visit, recommended by two friends locally, we were not disappointed. Great menu options, ambience, and service. Very spacious and inviting atmosphere. Options of outdoor, partially outdoor, and indoor seating. I did not remember to take a picture of my friends “Steamed Mussels”, and my partners “Seared Yellow Tuna Salad”. But they looked appetizing and according to them was fairly good. I was able to take a picture of the appetizer and my platters reflected in the images. They tasted better than they looked.

Used to be our favorite brunch place but due to Covid didn’t go for years, and when we did it was still “simply the best”. Nothing changed and in this instance for the better. Same amazing service and great hospitality. Cool servers who let you take your time, and the best part, they allow brunch reservations now. The chicken burger was delicious and of course the eggs Santa Fe was scrumptious. Bright ambiance and open space makes it the perfect weekend starter.

Absolutely fantastic brunch experience at Murphy's! The crab cake Benedict is a must-try – exquisite flavors that left my taste buds delighted. The overall ambiance and service were top-notch. A definite 5-star gem!

We came here for brunch and it was good. We had the Braised Brisket Hash, Eggs Slum Mulligan, and the Eggs Santa Fe (not pictured). The potatoes had good flavor. I really like the sausage in my Slum Mulligan. It had a melted cheese over all of it along with bacon and 2 poached eggs. It was tasty. They also brought out some complimentary biscuits and banana nut bread which were good. I’d say overall it was a good meal.

Brunch was delicious! Took a long time after we were seated for a waiter/waitress to come take our order or at least acknowledge us. Grits were delicious my 2nd fav in Atlanta. The crab cake Benedict was so good! The eggs Virgina highland were so good! A little pricey but we had a gift card.

Murphy's never disappoints! From the staff's eagerness to accommodate to the ability to seat large parties in a small space yet feel comfortable. The food is outstanding with so much variety.

We visited on a Saturday around 10:00 a.m. There were plenty of open tables at the time. We were seated immediately. The "outside" seating on the patio is fully enclosed and heated presently (early October). Our server, Keish (? I swear she said her name is "quiche," but maybe I was just thinking about food), was exceptionally friendly, informative and helpful. The food was good. I wasn't as impressed with the Crab Cakes Benedict as I thought I might be, but it was tasty. We also had the breakfast croissant sandwich special, and it was enjoyable as well.

An amazing spot to go to for a nice Sunday brunch. Food was flavorful and the service was outstanding. The biscuits and muffins you get as appetizers are amazing and will come back to try more menu items!

First time going. We took my mom for her birthday, and we really enjoyed ourselves. The service was great and the food and mimosas didn’t disappoint. I highly recommend and will definitely be back.

My department for work had our Christmas dinner here (12 of us). There was valet parking only unless you can find street parking as an alternative. The service was great and efficient especially considering our large party size. The temperature in the room we were in was so warm and uncomfortable which took away from the experience. We ordered charcuterie, burrata, and calamari which were a decent size and shareable. For our entrees, we ordered the halibut, brisket, steak frites, and kale salad. Everyone enjoyed their meals however nothing was truly exceptional. The desserts were probably our favorite. There were multiple fees on our bill, one for a large party which is standard and another for using a credit card payment. It's 2023... this seems outdated. Overall an average experience.

Exceptional service! The minute we walked in the host was welcoming and fun, he was also very kind to Frankie our Boston Terrier. You always get extra stars for being nice to my furson. We were seated on the lovely patio and Nas our server was incredibly helpful and nice. From the ambiance to the food everything was perfect. The portions are large and everything was flavorful. Great place to brunch with your pup! We'll be back.

The service was fantastic from the valet to the hostess to the waiter (Terrance) to the wonderful employees at the bar who chatted with us as we left. The wine suggestion was excellent and the food was delicious. Don't skip dessert --- yummmmm! The sampler is perfect (three treats in one)!!!

Food was awesome, service was excellent, desserts are bar none awesome and classic. The Salmon is great, salads are awesome, and the calamari is always on point and never over done. Great place, highly recommended.

Went there last night for my birthday. Got there around 6 and was seated immediately as we had reservations. Took about 15 minutes before waiter came. My food was tasty but others members in the group weren't too pleased. Portions are small considering the price. Limited menu so if i go back maybe I'll go for the brunch for the crab cakes....maybe it will be better.
Ursula Boykins
Enjoyed the ambiance and the food. The server.....not so much. Bar staff awesome, selection of food, great, flavor and taste, awesome. Valet, so very polite and prompt. I will return and soon.

This restaurant was the best in customer service, food and it's presentation. My waiter Zac was the best. I will be back and will give the highest regards about Murphy's.

Had the best time at the Summerfest wine tasting again this year. Y'all are the best! Amazing food and wine. Thanks to Emily for the amazing wine recommendations!
Maurice Pinder Jr.
The food presentation is done well, and everything had good flavor. The staff is attentive, but the pour on the drinks was a little inconsistent.
Shelia Chosen Woodyard
I ordered shrimp and grits. My food was lukewarm. Grits is not a dish best served cold. But our server James was awesome!

Had my engagement Lunch at Murphy’s less than an hour popping the question to my now fiancé! Tremendous staff, exquisite menu, and delicious specials. Wine and champagne selection is unmatched. 5/5 stars for a wonderful all around experience. Met the owner as well, and he made our visit even more pleasant! We will be back soon and regularly.
Rocio Tapia
Attentive and fast service. Everyone of us found something we like in the menu. Bread was very good. We enjoyed our dinner.

I have been here two times and love the food. Brought my husband here this past Sunday and he liked it very much. This place is definitely worth coming to especially for brunch. I will be back here again!

Excellent food. Great service. A bit cramped on weekends but nonetheless everything was delicious. The lemon cornbread was amazing.

Had brunch for my mom's birthday. Great service provided by our waiter Nas, food was great

I have been waiting to try Murphy’s for a while now. Finally tried Murphy’s for brunch. Was very fresh and delicious. Very busy and popular. Looking forward to going back for dinner service.

A very classic South Atlanta icon that has been around many years serving good southern comfort food and American favorites. Stop in next door to them and you can shop at their wine bar. A perfect Virginia Highlands location, with lots of shopping and eateries nearer to Emory.

You can find Murphy's at 997 Virginia Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30306 in the heart of Virginia Highland (literally at the corner of Virginia Ave and North Highland Ave NE). Parking is rather limited to side-streets so you may as well valet with the guys across the street - they'll take good care of your car.

Murphy's has proven itself and earned a reputation for being a consistent fine dining experience. They are hitting on all cylinders in every area... Location, unique space, excellent staff, price and wonderful food. On our most recent lunch visit we absolutely loved the Calamari appetizer, Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, Kale, Trout and Brussel Sprouts. Not only were we overwhelmed by the quality but the portions were extremely generous. We look forward to our next time there when we visit family in the Virginia Highlands.

Murphy's is my absolute favorite restaurant to visit in ATL! When I go I gotta have my avocado burger! You can't go wrong with any of the desserts!! The atmosphere is great inside & out!
Nmabluesman
Cool spot in a hipster part of town, delicious mango chicken salad and huge wine selection. Very good bartender and an excellent vodka martini.

This was my first time here. I got the shrimp and grits. It was amazing, had a little kick but not to much. I would def will come back and try something different next time. ✌🏾️

What a dissapointment. My family and I went to Murphy's for brunch last Sunday and it was the worst restaurant meal we have ever had anywhere. When my family visits it is a given that we go to Murphy's for brunch but after last Sunday, never again. We were seated on the unheated porch and had to eat with our coats on. The menu was new and very limited and had little that we were looking forward to. I ordered corned beef hash with poached eggs and received two poached eggs on top of creamed potatoes - no corned beef. My daughter ordered something that, when it arrived, was inedible. All of us left our food mostly untouched and nobody on the wait staff asked why. Our waiter was almost incompetent and did not know the menu. I could go on but it makes me angry all over again. Murphy's is living on its reputation.

The perfect place to meet and eat.. A beautiful restaurant with open air outdoor dining (enclosed and heated when it's cold outside), a beautiful bar, a bakery and a comfortable, well appointed dining room.
We have eaten at Murphy's many times for lunch and dinner, on weekdays and weekends. We have taken guests there and everyone (even our pickiest friends) have enjoyed their food. My personal favorite is the Crab Cake Sandwich.
Murphy's has a great menu that includes a lot of seasonal, local food and beer. We recently fell in love with a fall side dish that includes butternut squash, green beans, lima beans and carrots. It was perfectly seasoned and very fresh. (See photo) Delicious!
Casey
Overrated. For a place that is not cheap the food is lackluster at best. go across the street to la tavola for a truly good brunch
Jon
Nice brunch spot. Good, quick service and great food with varied choices.9/10

Good brunch! We had Eggs T. Murphy, Corned Beef Hash, and the special:
Fried Pork Chop with bacon onion jam and Home Fries. All great. Corned beef hash was savory and hearty; the favorite on the table. Great strong coffee. Now we want to go back for the bakery goods and amazing looking desserts.

Time Crunch. Had dinner here on Friday, 2/7. Unfortunately we had a tight time budget due to theatre tickets but I have to say the staff were outstanding. They got us in and out by the time we needed. The food generally was very good, they got my order wrong I wanted the salmon and grits but got the salmon with the sticky rice cake instead. Because we were tight for time I didn't mention it, the salmon was delicious but the rice, was meh, wish I'd had the grits. The desserts were a bit ho hum. We'll try it again when we have more time.

Timing = poor, food=good. 1.) I'm probably the only person who made this mistake, but there are two 997 Virginia Avenues in Atlanta. They have different zipcodes...One is Murphy's; the other is south of I-20. FYI. My bad.

2.) I was part of a party of about 12 last night for a friend's birthday. Here is our timeline:
8:15-8:45...all guests were present. Reservations were for 8:30. Extremely crowded bar and standing room only for an hour and a half while we waited in the lobby/wine shop area.
9:50ish?...10pm: we were seated---1.5 hours after our reservation time; given free appetizers and wine as negotiated by a member of our party due to the excessive wait
10:45-11pm: main courses served

Everyone really enjoyed the food as far as I could tell. I had the brisket and it was delicious! Calamari, cheese plate, and flat-bread pizza were lovely. I am unsure if any of our free items were actually offered by the staff, or if they were purely negotiated by our party member. Either way, the staff was very kind and accommodating to our situation. Some of the Yelp.com reviews also mentioned excessive wait times; this doesn't seem to be a problem exclusive to our party. Just prepare yourself with a crazy wait time if you are in a large party.

Great brunch!. We ate brunch @ the bar & had a great meal!! Service was very friendly, the food was delicious! We got the Eggs T Murphy & the French toast . We split them so we could each enjoy them. Great neighborhood restaurant!

Worth The Wait. We went there Sunday for Brunch and it was excellent. Great service and food! As Arnold says... I'll Be Back :)

Eating Here = Best Decision Ever!. Me and a party of about 8 went here for dinner, to celebrate my friend's birthday. After researching tons of nice restaurants in Atlanta, we decided on Murphy's, because the menu seemed to have something for everyone. We couldn't have picked a more perfect place! The hostesses were polite and approachable. Our reservation was honored with no wait, except for us waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. They were even nice enough to seat us before our entire party was there.

For small plates, we ordered the cheese plate, mussels, and calamari (one of their specialties). Everything was simply delectable! The mussels were cooked perfectly and were juicy and succulent; the cheese was delicious and flavorful (the goat cheese is to die for); and the calamari definitely lived up to its reputation! One of our friends had never had calamari, and she definitely became a fan of it that night!

Our server, Jodi was very knowledgeable about the menu, and had a very energetic, lighthearted, and accommodating personality. She was able to suggest the perfect wines, based on the taste profiles that we described to her. I really appreciated her expertise and thorough, accurate descriptions of the menu items. She made all of our mouths water, by the way she explained the wines and dishes. So many things on the menu sounded good that, at times, we had a hard time deciding, but Jodi made it really easy for us to choose, with personalized suggestions, based on what we wanted.

Per wine, we wanted something bright and flavorful (but not OVERLY sweet) to complement our small plates, and she suggested a bottle of the Kuentz Bas pinot gris. She was spot-on to a tee! Everyone loved it, and it went very well with what we ordered. I would definitely recommend it. I wanted a glass of something bold and red to go with my entree, so Jodi recommended one of the Argentinean Malbecs. I'm almost certain that it was the Achaval Ferrer, but I can't be 100% sure. Whatever it was, it packed just the punch that I was going for. The South African Shiraz was also very nice.

For the entree, I ordered the Sausage and Spinach Meatloaf. I know meatloaf may not sound THAT exciting, and I was semi-reluctant about getting it because it seemed kind of boring, but again, Jodi stepped in and described it in a way that made me feel like I needed it in my life! And I did not regret my decision. It was a very hearty, homey entree that made me feel warm and fuzzy inside (in the best way possible). A fulfilling portion of two perfectly-cooked, moist, melt-in-your-mouth slices of meatloaf, stacked atop each other, smothered in zesty marinara sauce; with smooth, creamy mashed potatoes, and crisp-but-juicy green beans on the side. Call me dramatic, but after almost every bite, I just closed my eyes and reveled in the splendor that is this dish. So, so good. Heavenly, even! I tasted some of my friend's trout, and that was also very tasty, and I'm not even a huge fan of fish. I was really excited to try the truffle mac n' cheese, but surprisingly, it was probably my least favorite thing of the night. It was just okay... definitely not the party-in-my-mouth that I was expecting.

Service was prompt, friendly, and 100% on-point. Everything was appropriately-priced, worth every penny, and actually a great value. I don't think anyone had any complaints. At one point, a manager came over to our table to converse and see how our experience was going. I couldn't quite hear the conversation, as I was at the other end of the table, but she seemed to be very personable and engaging, and our friends were smiling and laughing with her.

At the end of the meal, Jodi got a little confused with splitting the tickets. That is the only issue that we had the entire night. She explained to us that it was her last night (unfortunately!), so we're just going to blame it on that. To avoid the issue though, I would simply suggest explaining what you will be paying for, as you order it. It makes it whole lot easier, once you get to the end and people are trying to take responsibility for what appetizer to take care of, etc. Besides that everything was 5-STAR all across the board... epic win!! I will definitely be back!
Gigi
Great food awesome special & good service. However, if you get here after 12 for brunch be prepared to wait.?

YUMMY!. Ever since my first visit, I've been back at Murphy's quite a few times! #1-their lunch service goes until 5PM before they start dinner! It's nice knowing I can get my chicken, spinach and bacon burger when I get off of work late or their other menu items. The dessert trio is a must get-the bonzo is insanely chocolatey but delicious, the panna cotta is light and creamy and the tollhouse pie is tasty, even with the addition of vanilla ice cream. Also, if you take a look at the pics, the creme brulee comes with an adorable almond spoon :).

Superb. I've been to Murphy's four times now (each time for brunch). It is easily my favorite restaurant (at least for brunch) in Atlanta.

Food preparation - excellent, never under or over cooked
Atmosphere - excellent, always bustling and lively
Service - excellent, the waitstaff is always courteous, thoughtful and friendly (I took my family for my Dad's birthday and our waiter told me he would surprise my Dad with a birthday dessert before I could ask for it!)
KP
Tried and True. My husband and I have frequented Murphy's over the past few years and have never been disappointed.

From the moment you walk in you get that homey feel with the perfect balance of elegance. The atmosphere perfectly compliments the delicious American/Southern food. The servers are always impeccable, we've always been taken care of in a way that shows they value us as patrons.

Some of our favorites are the Guinness Braised Brisket for an entree, the Truffle Mac 'n Cheese for a side, any of their soup du jour options, their wine list is amazing and we regularly try one of the highlighted wines (which typically are in the lighter red varieties - we love Pinot Noir so it works great for us!) and last but certainly not least... you've got to try the Bonzo for dessert or the dessert trio (which comes with a smaller bonzo, tollhouse pie and their delicious vanilla bean panna cotta).

LOVE this restaurant!

Best Brunch. Headed back to Murphy's for brunch again during Summerfest. As always, Murphy's has the best brunch in the city. The service is usually great, given the massive volume they have and the mimosas are poured big...just as they should be! : )
I had the Slum Mulligan and the potatoes were perfectly seasoned and the vegetables were al dente. Also ordered a side of the chicken sausage. The table was blown away...who knew chicken sausage could be that flavorful...I did...that's why I ordered it! You have to give it a try. Thanks for being the best Murphy's!

My No. 1 Brunch Spot. Hands down... Love Murphy's. They are my go to brunch spot. Make sure to try to Mimosa's with a shot of Grand Marnier... Food excellent and service is always wonderful.
William W. Saint
Party of four, from Louisiana, visiting Atlanta and told to come by and enjoy some of Atlanta's best... Gotta be honest, the ribeye, brisket, lobster, and "meatless Monday" entrees were all mediocre at very best. If I weren't being a polite guest in Georgia I'd have some even more descriptive criticism of a restaurant that fails to live up to the hype and falls far short of the high prices they charge.
Garry Winterton
We had lunch and it was first class, the service and the food was great.
Jonathan Harvey
My wife and I went to Murphy's for dinner last Friday night and, as usual, it was excellent. The crispy pork shank was so good. Always good service and great atmosphere.

Best Brunch and Mimosas!!!. Murphy's has quite possibly the BEST brunch and mimosa I have had in Atlanta(and I have had quite a few brunches...lol)...I'll pass on the french toast(it can be a little on the dry side), but everything else is on point!!!
Bobby
The last time I went to Murphy's, the food and service was horrible. Before this experience I would go a least twice a month but now I will not walk in the restaurant

Enjoyable Lunch!. I had lunch at Murphy's on a Thursday. I had the brisket sandwich with the soup of the day. I thought the food was very tasty and the service to be very good. The prices were reasonable. There's no question I would return for another lunch!
Michele
Generous Portions. Murphy's has always been know for good food and generous portions - a classic neighborhood place. Last night's special proved the false. While the good food part still applies, the generous does not. The shrimp special consisted of 4 average-sized (like 21-25/pound) shrimp. Come on - 2 or 3 more would not have broken the bank and sure would have made for a more satisfying dinner.
AguaDeSiesta
Solid. Burgers, crab cake sandwiches, and basically anything on the brunch menu are delicious. there's always a wait for brunch, but weekday lunches are pretty open. no matter how long it takes, though, it's worth it.
Afiya P
Great Food and Service. This place is great overall. I have been twice and the food and service has been great so far! Warning on the Shrimp and grits though: You will only get 4 shrimps in this entree. it is way overpriced. Other than that, everything else was great!
Sarah
This is my favorite restraunt. The Mac n Cheese is to die for!!!
BH
What's Happened!?. Use to love Murphy's but ate there last night and it was terrible! Had the half chicken. It was tasteless almost like it had been poached not roasted and served on top of some crunchy chick peas that had no taste and then they poured a little tomato sauce over the chick peas it was awful! The others at our table had the lobster salad and they did not like it at all. One person had the meatloaf and he did like his(how can you mess up meatloaf?). The mussels and the bread were also tasty and the server could not have been nicer. But it will take a lot more than a nice server and good mussels to get me back to Murphy's.

Full as a tick.. This is by far the best place to go for brunch. You need to have it on your list of places to eat. Enough said!
Handlebars
Meatloaf was great. gazpacho wasn't. The meatloaf was very good, The fried green tomatoes were ok, not my favorite style breading. I prefer my gazpacho less chunky, although I suppose it's more of a personal preference. The couple we were with loved everything they ordered. Drinks were good.

This is a nice little place in a cool area of town with decent food at a great price.
Wes
We went here for brunch after the Virginia Highlands Festival. No wait at all. Great atmosphere and service. I had the Chilaquiles which was basically breakfast enchiladas. Fantastic. Actually everything was top notch. A bottle of TOHU sauvignon blanc complemented nicely. I finished with the desert trio which was actually a huge sample of three different deserts. All which were good beyond description. Great experience.
Yoel
I really like Murphy's for lunch. The atmosphere is relaxed but upscale and the food is always good. Their patio dinning on a beautiful day is really enjoyable as well. I love the avocado aioli that comes with their grass fed burger. I usually get it without the bun and it is a really nice lunch. Yes, yeah burger is acros the street but this is a much nicer atmosphere for a bit mote upscale meal. No dig to yeah burger... I love them too.

Awesome Dining. This past Thursday evening a Friend and I decided Murphy's for our dining destination. We were greeted and taken to the patio as requested. Very nice on an early evening. Although facing the street, a hedge separated us from the street to create a more cozy environment. Well, let's start with the wine list. I was so happy to see unique varietals such as Babera and Albarino. So I enjoyed an Albarino from California. Our server Joy was quite proficent in the menu and offering detailed descriptions. The Flatbread was full of flavor, although challenging to transport to my eagerly waiting tastebuds. The Shrimp and Grits was the comfort food I was craving for. I was way too stuffed for dessert, so I am definately going back and making that a priority next time.
I have been to Murphy's before for Brunch, but now it is on my list for revisit soon.
ELM
Lovely dinner. A bit pricey but certainly not overpriced. Delicious food and professional service.

Noisy, Busy, Food Hit or Miss. We went to dinner here one Friday evening. Thankfully, we got there a little early (6:30) because when we left the place was packed. Parking is a problem. We had to valet park in the lot next to them.

We ate in the front overlooking the street. It was pleasant except it was very noisy, so noisy that it was hard to hear our waitress. As far as the food goes, some of it was very good and some was lousy. Stay away from the fried green tomatoes. They were disgusting. The aioli fries were good although it was more of a cream sauce and not true aioli, the salads are decent, and we had a mushroom soup that was excellent. They brought warm crusty bread to the table after we ordered and gave us olive oil to dip it in. The bread was good. According to the waitress, if you email the chef, he'll send you the recipe. We're emailing for the mushroom soup.
Mike
Love it!. Excellent Food! I really enjoyed my dining experience here. The service was great and the atmosphere was awesome. My wife and I loved it.
Heather Shirah
Went for dinner, the appetizers and all entrees were delicious. Great wine list also.

Expensive. This place has excellent food. The wait and price could ALMOST turn me away. I tried their daily soup special which was cream of mushroom. It was delish.
Theanchorman
Sure it was a long wait and a bit pricey, but the food was well worth it. There omelette is off da chain. Nice place to go to.
Jj
Wait told wait time of 20 minutes and was 45 minutes . Then seated on the porch but was also told it was just as nice as the inside restaurant. I am here to tell you that the porch in the winter is not as nice as inside. Ate dinner with our coats on and buttoned and will never go back.
Rodney
Chicken Burger??? Yeah Awesome Chicken Burger. So glad I was with my wife and family today at Murphy's. That way , I get to sample everyone's dish!! Allison had the best amongst some really good things ordered!! The Spinach Chicken Burger and it was tasty!! I gave her half of my Murphy Burger which was cooked to Med Rare, the way I asked and was great too! I prefered my White Bean Soup to her Sweet Potato but they were both good! I hope to be back soon!! Enjoy!
KrissyKapri
Always a 10!. I love Murphy's for a Sunday brunch spot. The food is always good and the mimosas are amazing! I think its the fresh squeeze OJ! My only dislike are the extended waits but it is worth it once you sit down. Cheers!
Meatman
Overpriced, Overhyped. This place gets rave reviews. I must be missing something, but I prefer to trust my palate as it has served me well for 35 years.
I have lived in many large cities, and Atlanta is still lacking in true great neighborhood places.
I am told that was the origin of Murphy's but now they have gone chain crazy, being part of some group.

Good deserts, mediocre food. Not American fare as thought.
Tried dinner and brunch, but third time will not be a charm. Overpriced wines to boot, and zero parking
Ben
Brunch Fantastic!. My wife and I dined here Saturday morning around 10am and the food was fantastic! Great environment, service was very solid and the food was fantastic. Best Crab Cake Sandwich I've ever had.

Will definitely be back!
Honest Chef
Good Brunch. I always liked this place, hope you can get away from Concentrics.

Tasty Brisket. Horseradish beef brisket was great. The truffle mac and cheese was also very good. A bit pricey but definitely delicious.
Brian
Dinner tonight at Murphys was great. Flatbread to start, shrimp and grits then good ol' creme brûlée for desert. Some good wine selections too. Mighty fine evening
Danielle Nieroda Mazurek
We've had NOTHING but bad experiences here. The people are rude and the food is subpar at best.

Mmmm.... ...mmm GOOD!

Always worth the drive 45 miles north for this place. Never disappointed & always a great meal.

"Fresh is the Word". If fresh is the Word, Murphy's Restaurant is for you, a true understanding of Southern cuisine, with a very creative flair. Not like most high end restaurants, after having a bunch a small portions and you get home and find yourself looking for something to eat, he creates a very well balance meal that you can savor and appreciate the dinning experience. This is a place that I been known to drive out of my way to dine in.
My only knock is that he does not have any Vegetarian meals on the menu so it's "A la carte" for you. Had to pleasure to meet Chef Tom, great guy and loves his passion and works much too hard and long, I worry about him sometimes. I have always had a great dinning experience here.

Murphy's. Great service, great food, great environment. I'll suggest this restaurant to anyone!

ALWAYS GR8!. One of the best places for Brunch. Love! love! love! enough said.

Decent, but not the best. Made a reservation for 2 for a birthday celebration. We were promptly led to a table that was literally crammed into the back corner. If I were any taller (I'm only 5'4") I would have been hitting my head on a plant every time I moved. Despite the prompt service at the door, the table had not yet been cleaned, and we had to wait for someone to come by and clean it off. Server was friendly, but didn't have much wine knowledge; she also seemed a little hurried and frantic, but maintained her friendly demeanor throughout the meal. The food was great. We started with the flash-fried calamari, and the crispy goat cheese salad. Both were perfectly simple in their seasonings, not overdone but also not bland. Main courses were the grouper with risotto (for him) and the guinness braised brisket (for me); we shared a side of truffle mac n cheese, which was rather large for only $5. The amount of food we got was impressive; we both ended up taking home boxes. The brisket was a bit on the salty side, but when dealing with a comfort dish like that, I almost expect it to be really rich and salty. It was still delicious. His fish was perfectly prepared, and he wished he could eat more. :) We had a cheese course for dessert; my only complaint is that there were no options, only a set cheese selection. Overall, I'd say the atmosphere was lacking - very loud, tables very close together, but the food and friendly service definitely made up for it.

Va Highlands-. Pricey but good...I took my stepdad there once and he about choked about the price of a hamburger.

AMAZING. Chef and Owner of Crepe Revolution and I chose Murphy's as first pick for 6 friends from out of town (restaurateurs) to see what Atlanta dining and wine-ing is about. All of us LOVED it !! Very knowledgeable staff, wonderful food, espresso martinis to die for.

Rob Morneweck

So Good!. Happy to see Chef Tom take over the kitchen at this cool little gem. Can't think of anything that was not exceptional the evening we dined. Service was top-notch, menu items were perfectly portioned and executed with great care and attention to detail, flavor and taste profile....great wine list...what else is there? You will drop some cash here, and I was happy to do it and will again...if you're looking for a cheaper place, as I have read in other reviews, I'm sure there's a Chic-Fil-A somewhere in your neighborhood (sorry if I didn't spell it right as I have never eaten at one!)

I went for my birthday and it was FANTASTIC! If Murphy's is ever an option for dinner, GO!

Very good. I went here with my family for my sister's 21 birthday. Everything was SOooo yummy. I was a great night out with awesome service.

Over hour long wait. Large parties being seated ahead of us. Too pricey for the food. Tight space and too loud.

THE Place for Sunday Brunch. Murphy's is a great place for Sunday Brunch. They have a large menu to accommodate just about any palate. I recommend a few items (oh and get a Mimosa!)

Eggs T. Meh-phy's. So here's the thing, the food at Murphy's was excellent. I had the trout with a side of mashed potatoes and my husbance had the guinness brisket. The trout was a pretty generous portion, but the brisket could have been a little heartier. Normally I wouldn't mind portion size as much, but as they are relatively pricey I think they need to at least send you away feeling full. Also, the service definitely left something to be desired. While our server was a pleasant conversationalist, but he took a while to get us our drinks (water) and wasn't very good about keeping them full. A must in 90+ degree weather. I could understand if he was very busy, but all things considered, we didn't even walk through the door until nearly 10 PM, so I doubt it was the 'rush.' So overall, I would say that there are many other places in Virginia-Highlands that I enjoy eating more, for less money, and where I can get better service. While Murphy's food was pretty excellent, they would have to step up in portion and service before I will be interested in eating there again.

Shocked. I heard great reviews about this place, but I was upset about how much i paid. It was not worth it. I can spend 30 dollars somewhere else and be way happier.

Food was great, atmosphere was nice, but don't expect to leave with any full wallet.

Great Bistro. Murphy's is a great neighborhood bistro with a fine if not somewhat limited menu. Murphy's offers a good wine listing and great service. It is worth the visit if you are in town.

Great food...try. The appetizer thin crust pizza.. It's the best app in Atlanta.

Quality cuisine. Consistent quality, excellent service, fair prices. There is a reason Murphy's has been around for decades.

Best Brunch in ATL? Really?. Murphy's brunch came with high expectations, and failed to meet them. The service was very friendly, but slow. The biscuit/muffin basket came so late that we barely buttered them before the food came out.

The food was ok, but nothing special. My chilaquiles were ok, but lacked any spice - it tasted like bland salsa dumped over some chicken. Also, it was cold, not even lukewarm.

All in all, disappointing.

Monday's are meatless. The meat is still on the menu but the beautiful bountiful produce available to atlanta is showcased on a meatless option menu. Brunch is popular here and you will find some brunch like items on the lunch menu if you happen to have a hankering for it on a weekday. Omlettes are always a good idea.
Food In Atlanta
Murphy’s sits in the middle of Virginia Highlands, and has been serving high quality food at an extremely reasonable price for over thirty years. Murphy’s is often the “go to” place for my family whenever we have a special occasion. You really won’t find much to complain about when you go eat there, but my family always seems to come up with something. The martinis aren’t filled up enough or the food is taking too long, but the overall experience is really very nice. it’s one of our favorite restaurants in city. Once dinner is finished, you can head over to Highland Tap which has a great bar or you might opt for some frozen yogurt from Yoforia. Either way Virginia Highlands is a great place to loiter around after your meal. Murphy’s Menu Highlights: The chef has recently changed the menu at Murphy’s, and the improvement to the menu is tremendous. The crab cakes previously contained a high bread crumb to crab meat ratio, but now the lump crab meat flavor

We go right for the entree, and decide to split the Guinness braised beef brisket, which comes with horseradish mashed potatoes, roasted carrots, and green beans.

The food was simply impeccable. The burger was absolutely fantastic!

You may already be familiar with this restaurant from my Jaclyn's Favorites of Atl post. I’m a big fan! I’ve spent birthday dinners, girls brunches, and taken many out-of-town guests here. Murphy’s is my “go-to” because they do everything right, in my mind at least. Or they did everything right. And this post pains me to write but I have to reveal the few downsides to this place only because I feel obligated to give it to you straight! (I snagged writing this post from Anand because I feared he would be a little harsh as he’s known to be ... ahem Octane post.) Overall, I think Murphy’s menu is flawless and their restaurant has this southern cottage feel that instantly relaxes you and makes you want to stay a while. From my often brunching here I’ve taken notice of their coffee selection. I decided it was time for the other half of Atlanta Coffee Scene to pay Murphy’s a visit and do a proper review. So, one chilly Sunday morning Anand and I took a seat at the bar that doubles as a

This will be a short report since I didn't actually eat at Murphy's, but I did enjoy my experience there. It's located right behind the Virginia Highlands sign---pretty much the definition of centrally located in Virginia Highlands. The atmosphere is wood-oriented but very sunny, unlike the typical bar experience. They get baked goods from Bakeshop, which is a good sign. (I hope to be able to review Bakeshop soon.) Leslie, of course, suggested this place, and I'll make it back some time to try out the food and give a fuller report. 0 comments: Post a Comment Newer Post Older Post Home Subscribe

Murphy’s is a great neighborhood spot with a warm and inviting atmosphere, sure to continue to dominate the brunch scene.

Anyhow, Murphy’s is definitely worth a second visit. The Chilaquiles and the Fried Green Tomato sandwich are next on my radar.

On Saint Patrick’s, I’m listening to a lady sing Irish ballads, surrounded by well dressed folks with distinct Irish accents, in a famed Atlanta restaurant named Murphy’s, along with wife and daughter. How iconic is that? It was, to a first approximation, pure accident. I just wanted a nice place to eat.
Bonnie Tandy Leblang - BITE OF THE BEST
December 30, 2011 Until this evening's visit, I had only frequented Murphy's in the Virginia/Highland area for Sunday brunch. Loved their basket of fresh muffins and biscuits that accompanied menu offerings - and their freshly brewed coffee. Just looking for something light, we just shared a few thing starting with flash-fried tender sweet calamari ($11) . This wasn't served with the typical warm marinara sauce but with two sauces: a cocktail one usually accompanying other shellfish plus a weird sauce of apple cider vinegar, diced Granny smith apples, garlic and crushed pink peppercorns. In addition, we split an entree portion of Murphy's Caesar salad with their crispy shaved onion rings and spicy croutons ($8); and Murphy's perfectly cooked, medium-rare burger, topped with an avocado mayo, Swiss cheese and smoked bacon that came with french fries ($12). No dessert for us, instead we just finished our bottle of Terrazas Argentinean Malbec ($28). I'd recommend Murphy's for Sunday brunch

My mom is a creature of habit and one habit she hasn't kicked is Murphy 's. We've been going to Murphy's regularly since I was a teenager but despite of that, I, too, have not gotten tired of their food. Located in the hip neighborhood of Virginia Highlan

It’s no surprise this notoriously packed Virginia-Highland restaurant offers good french toast on the breakfast and brunch menu. Each medium-sized slice of challah bread is coated in a cinnamon-laced mixture that is just eggy enough and finished with a bl
