Review Rogue Ales Public House - Astoria

Joshua Temple
The location is extremely unique, and the food and beer is good. Lots of pub food options, we loved the pub pretzels, burgers, fish and chips, and the chowder. Lots of great beer options. Nice Rogue merchandise shop inside. Parking can be tricky when it’s busy. The outdoor seating mostly overlooks the parking lot but still has great views over the water.

The drive in on the pier is awesome, and the dog friendly patio is tops! Our server was great and brought a fresh bowl of water for our pup. The food was okay, nothing to write home about, but the atmosphere is totally worth the outing. Our dog also loved the Pup Patty!

We really enjoyed our dinner at the Rogue Pier 39 Public House. Great service, food, drinks, view, and atmosphere. Have to make this a regular stop when we visit Astoria. The fried cheese curds were awesome!

Awesome place! Just like any other Rogue place it has great service. Ludicrous amount of beer varieties, a long with liquor choices. Would love to visit again. The restaurant is on pier 39 of the Columbia. Very nostalgic. I went twice. The food though is just decent. However, the beer cheese sauce with the pretzels is insanely awesome! If you don't order it you will be sorely mistaken.

If you like Beer, you’ll love Rogue Pier 39! Awesome beer selection and great food. The cheese curds were incredible, as was the blackened Salmon Burger. My buddy had the fish and chips and it was a huge portion. My only disappointment was the fact that they were out of the Rogue IPA, but I found a tasty replacement. Free stickers were a plus! Just ask.

I am visiting from out of town on business and this place was on my list.... cool laid back vibe with lots of drink choices. I had the Dead Guy Pilsner and the Hazelnut Brown Nectar... both were excellent. Limited food menu but the Fish and Chips were very good. I highly recommend you give this place a visit.

One of the interesting public houses located in a historic cannery on the Columbia River with a large selection of beer and a food menu. I was seated after a short wait and ordered the Salmon Fish and Chips, Clam Chowder with a craft root beer. The menu offers burgers, pizza, soup, sandwiches, salad, and appetizers. Rogue offers thirty beers on tap from their own brewery. It took about fifteen minutes for my order to arrive without any problems. The Salmon was light and flakey with good taste. The clam chowder was thick and had a smokey taste to it. The root beer is made from sarsaparilla flavor, honey, and brown sugar. It has a sweet, smooth taste with some herb and root taste to it. The music was really loud and it was hard to people talking. Located on Pier 39 in Astoria in the old Bumble Bee Cannery. A nice place to have lunch with solid pub food, a large selection of beer with friendly service and great views of the river.

Had a great lunch with family here! The salmon fish and chips were good but not what I was expecting for fish and chips (note to self, don't get salmon if you want whitefish taste). Everyone loved the food, beer, and service! They also have nice patio area where you can have your dogs and they'll bring out some water bowls, too! Will eat here again when in Astoria.

Such a great spot on the pier in Astoria and they let me charge my Onewheel! The fish and chips were legit and the stouts are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. I have not always been a fan of Rogue, but I am now!

We just went there to grab some beer. They have a great selection of drinks that you can take home. The staff is great. You drive through a wooden bridge to get there so that's pretty neat. It's a very laid back atmosphere.

Love coming here. Good beers, great service and unbeatable view of Astoria sound. During peak summer seasons there’s a Line to get in, but off season, this is low key the spot to go! Just drive slow over the wooden bridge to get here, there’s a crazy old lady yelling at each customer to slow down when we’re going the 5 mile speed limit. 😂

We always have a good time at Rogue. The food was great, the cheese curds with the jalapeño jelly was an unexpected flavor bomb of awesomeness. Get the BBQ chicken sandwich and the pretzel appetizers. Great place and great views!

Fun spot for a bar... on a Pier! Has the real pier feel with the old-time fish market. Food was good. And you can drive on the old bridge and park right on the pier!

The service here was so quick! And the patio is dog-friendly. So dog-friendly that our pup received a big water bowl and we purchased a $5 burger patty for her to enjoy. We enjoyed the cheese curds, soy curl BBQ sandwich, and Beyond Burger. The cheese curds were hot and melty but a little on the greasy side. The soy curl sandwich was delicious and the coleslaw on top was fresh and tasty. The Beyond Burger was fair (3 out of 5 stars) and the tots weren't super tasty. The atmosphere was casual and entertaining with a great view of the Astoria Megler bridge and the opportunity to drive and park on the pier itself.

Be aware of the parking situation! You're better off parking before the bridge to get to the restaurant and walking over. We pulled in and had to turn around and go back. It's not that far of a walk. We got seated right away. The cheese curds are so good! Make sure you try them. The CBD seltzer was good for non alcoholic folks. The staff was nice and friendly. If you can get a window seat its fun to watch the boats while you dine.

I was not so impressed with my choices of beer. My food was most delicious. I had the salmon and chips. Thou I chose Chowder instead, very good. I did think 2 of the beers were ok, so I may recommend them to the customers at work.

Drive out on an older wooden pier. Parking a bit cramped, you might have to park on shore and walk out on the pier. We sat outside. Service was prompt and friendly. I had the salmon fish and chips - excellent! Larger chunks of fish, is guess 6 ounces total. Wife had blackened salmon sandwich, said it was very good. Salads were supposed to be Caesar, but the dressing wasn't great. Don't really think it was worth the $5. Just a plate of lettuce with bland dressing. Big beer selection. Mixed drinks too.

Amazing bacon cheese 🍔 burger!! So big! I have a small mouth. So, it was very hard for me to bite into it. Interestingly, they don't have a knife for me to cut it. I love the tots! So good! Overall, burger is great! Service is wonderful. I may have to carry my own plastic knife if I go back! Lol

All I can say is it is amazing and totally worth it!!!! The cheddar bites were the best thing I have eaten in a long long time!!! All the food was amazing but the cheddar bites were the star!! The fish and chips, tots and steak bites were good too! The beers were amazing and we tried about 4 different ones. You order at the counter and take your table number with you and wait for the food. Everything was so so good!! I would really recommend this place!!

This was by far our favorite place for lunch on the weekends. The view, the atmosphere, the beer, and the pizza brought us back repeatedly. I do have to say that this past weekend experience dropped their star rating for us from 5 to 3. It seems that Rogue has gone the way of fast food style serving. You order from the bar and the food is brought out to you. No more waitstaff coming to the table to greet you with a beer sample at the start. Two big, wooden barrels are at the door with a large sign directing you to order at the bar. People are confused as to whether or not to sit first and look at the menu, or stand around the door looking at the menu which blocks other incoming patrons. If you want another beer, you have to get up and get it yourself. For us, we prefer to be served when we go out to eat, otherwise we can stay home and serve ourselves. We saw a man from a large group carrying about 8 drinks from the bar on a tray back to his group - you could see he was struggling with balancing it. If you want another drink, you go up and stand in line for a refill while the bar takes other orders in front of you. This deterred us from getting another beer round, let alone, possibly dessert. We’ve also noticed that the beers are now being filled about an inch or two from the top instead of a full glass including foam. I’m sure that this ordering change is their way of compensating limited waitstaff, but it seems to me that reduced total ticket sales from additional drinks or even dessert would not offset the savings from limited waitstaff. Plus, I'm sure tips are reduced because the waitstaff is only delivering the food. You could sense the confusion and the disappointment from the clientele, and it wasn't really that busy there. You have put a restraint on the waitstaff that is talented and able to connect with customers. You can also sense the frustration and confusion from the staff, but they were doing their best to accommodate the change. But in the process, details are lacking, i.e. The water glass I received had lipstick on it, (not mine). We do love the beer and the food there, and hope that this "service fix" is only temporary and they will go back to full service. However, we may gravitate to other restaurants with full service.

The atmosphere was fun and I liked the location. The food was tasty when it arrived, but we waited at least an hour and 20 minutes for the food. The server was difficult to flag down and neglected to deliver on several items we asked for (simple things like iced water). About 50 minutes into our wait, we asked about the status of our order. The server simply replied that they were working on it. later, when the server realized how truly long it was taking our order to come out, he apologized and informed us they'd comp our meals. I appreciate the gesture, and normally they'd earn a second chance from me. However, long wait times are pretty thematic on their Facebook reviews. Without seeing evidence that they have addressed their service time issues, I won't be back. I've got 2 young boys, and that kind of wait can quickly become a nightmare for everyone involved.

The service was EXTREMELY slow. We waited a good 15-20 min before anyone came to take our orders. Took a long time to even bring us water. Waited for approximately an hour for our food to finally come out (burgers and fish and chips nothing fancy), did not bring all the drinks asked for so had to be asked again, the waitress never checked on us and never refilled our drinks. The two tables nearest us also had the same terrible service as we all had the same waitress. Was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. Our next visit to Astoria will not include this place again.

Good place very good halibut and I know how to choose what’s the best. The hour wait was almost worth it. Only thing that sucked was that I had to share the food with my kids and they ate it all

I have been a Rogue member since 2009! Also a pint club member!Waiting over an hour for food is a bit over the top! My wings were not very good! The Beer is Always excellent but the menu and food service and quality have gone down hill! I just cant't understand how Mr. Joyce can continue to allow these problems with one of his establishments continue to go on????

The plus is the location. We went on Saturday for a late lunch not to crowded, was not greeted and waited to be seated with no direction from staff for a few minutes. Once we were told to get any table we stayed because there was a table by the window. It took 50 minutes to get our food which was a cup of chowder, a salad and a plate of wings. (I have idea why it would take so long for these items) Food was ok service extremely slow and unfriendly. My husband was going to buy a box of beer after we paid our bill but stood there for 15 minutes waiting to pay with cash while the server walked past him three times so we left with out much acknowledgement. We were excited to try a new place but have no desire to ever come back.

This was my first time to Rogue, and it won't be my last.. This is an Awesome place with great scenery and great food. Our server Marie was amazing! She is exceptional! Being a Bartender/Server myself, I can only say that these employee's really know how to treat their customers. Everyone was awesome, and I can't wait to go back

Great Beer, okay food, decent service(for the one person doing everything around there on a Tuesday afternoon). Stopped in yesterday a little after 1pm and it was pretty dead except around the bar. Grabbed a table near the window and didn't have long to wait to be recognized or served. We took our time ordering food and beer and he was always not to far away to check in and take care of us. We ordered the Mac n' cheese which I have to say I have a much better recipe for and the noodles were overcooked and broken and split. But other than that the ambiance was nice and we keep coming back evert year.

Beer selection was good. We ended up waiting for more then 50 minutes for our food to arrive after being told the wait would only be 25 minutes. The food was hot and tasted good however it wasn’t what I ordered. After noticing it wasn’t want I ordered it was at least 30 minutes before our waiter even check on us. When the mistake was brought up to him he made it right by comping the order. The sad/annoying part is this is not the first time something like this has happened at a rogue. In general Rogues service is sub par, the employees appear annoyed or pissed off and their beer is meh. Rogue is a place to go when all the other places in town are closed or busy.

I've never had a bad experience at Rogue when visiting Astoria. You don't go there for the snappy service or world class food. You go for the friendly atmosphere and great waterfront ambiance. Also, it's hard not to have a great time after a few draws from your favorite tap.........Ditto for the locations in Newport.

While working in Astoria, yesterday we stopped in for a visit. I had the Honey Kölsch and a amber and friends had chocolate stout and Shakespeare nitro. Food and service was spot on. Great overall experience! Thanks!

Awesome location, by the Columbia river. It is best place to have a pint when the weather is nice. Good selection of craft beers too...

Waiting now one hour for our order. Our 3 year old twins did well the first 45 minutes but now are starving and unruly. Bad taste in my mouth and the food isn’t even here. This experience has sucked!!!

This Rogue Piblic House used to be awesome three years ago. In my opinion, it is now sustained mediocre at best. Too bad. With all the folks in Astoria to fish Bouy 10, you would think this would be an amazing eating establishment. DISAPPOINTED!

Stumbled into this unique spot and didn’t want to Leave!! Had the woodmans wine , halibut fish and chips ! .. fabulous! You won’t be disappointed!!!

Sorry but stay away from this place. Over an hour to get served tonight, according to locals this place is always seriously understaffed and this is normal. Place was nearly empty, dude was working his tail off. Burger and salads were good but never again. Should just close down if they can't do better than this.
