We had a great time at this place ! It being the oldest bar in Astoria, had a salty sailor atmosphere ! I see memos left by brave Coast Guard Crews of signed off Orange lifesavers that identified their sea vessels 🚒. There was a warm fire place to sit by as we enjoyed our meal. The food was outstanding ! Great service in a friendly bar. We are definitely going back !

This is a favorite for my wife and I. Always great food cold beer and great drinks. Even when they are packed you are greeted with a smile and a beverage. Sometimes food service can be slow, but you don't come here to "eat it and beat it". Kick back and relax. Great spot.

Our waitress was great and very helpful. The food was excellent. Would like to thank her and her friend John that we met with trying to find a place for us to camp that night.

Some people think this is a "dive bar." Not so! It has local character. Drove 170 miles just for their prawns and Bouy Cream Ale!

Visited on a Friday night, about half full. Sat at bar and got fast and friendly service. Clam Chowder is best I've ever had, it had a tad of spice which was nice because a lot of restaurants chowder is bland. The bowl of chowders portion was very big, almost a meal in itself. Big chunks of clam and potatoes and nicely garnished too. The patty melt was great, and the fries were crisp and tasty. Stiff drinks. Nice atmosphere. Ended up taking the patty melt home as leftovers due to the size of the bowl of chowder. Will definitely go back. Also they're open later than most other restaurants in the area. Everyone else was closing at 6 or 8pm unless you went downtown

My friend and I tried this place while on a day trip to Astoria. Both of us had never been here before, and we wanted to try something new. This decision was one of the best we'd made all day. I had the chicken strip and fries. AMAZING! They were lightly breaded, and the fries were out of this world. My friend had a burger and portway chips. According to her, those portway chips are "better than McMenamins" ( her exact words). We both took home leftovers, and I'm happy to report that we both loved it the second time, too. Being both in the food industry, we can be picky about our food. But the food and service was so good that we're planning another day trip just so we can revisit the Portway tavern. πŸ»πŸ”πŸŸ

I visited the Portway Tavern in early August 2023; it was the best restaurant/bar in walking distance from my hotel. The one bartender/server Melinda was handling everything but the kitchen. She was very busy, but also very efficient. Melinda makes a beautiful (and strong) martini. Besides martinis I had really good fish and chips. The food took a while, but came out piping hot. Portway was undoubtedly a lot grittier back in the day, but still featured at least as many un-gentrified locals as there were tourists. I'd certainly go back.

My husband was craving a good burger so we looked up which burger was the best in Astoria, and Astoria's Portway seemed to be the consensus. We had a Tequila Sunrise, Cheeseburger and the Mushroom Swiss Burger with an appetizer of Mozzarella Sticks. Absolutely ranks at the top of my burger list! The way the bun is toasted enough to give you crunch without having to char the burger was absolute perfection!

On a recent trip thru Seattle & Oregon we stopped in to this local bar for a quick ale. We wound up having many drinks and meals. Staff was great. We came in at a busy time and they were hopping Beers came fast and the food right after first beer. Cheese curds...awesome! Burger done right! Every bar & pub has a world famous burger but at Portway the don't brag...they deliver. Do yourself a favor and come here and try it out. You won't be disappointed

This place is so unassuming. Everything is DELICIOUS! The best Beyond Meat burger I’ve ever had, seriously. Also, they have a dog friendly patio you can access by taking your dog inside and walking through a back door. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try!

Good food and beer options. Only one server who also staffs bar and one cook. Not a problem if you're not in rush. Fish is halibut not cod and one order enough for 2 seniors. Chowder also good.

If you enjoy burgers, country music, and a dive bar atmosphere this is your place. The clientele is a tad on the older side if that matters to you. The burgers were solid and not too expensive. The beers on tap were also good. I decided on an Alaskan amber ale that was quite good.

My husband and I have found another hot spot in Astoria! The service we were provided was friendly with laughs with a sense of a chill vibe. Pictured is their cheese burger and yes they cook their burgers by request! We ordered our medium rare and the "pink " was not a disappointing color!! Daniel, the bartender was not only attentive to us, but he makes all portway guests feel very welcome and it was even cool how he thanked EVERY customer on their way out the door, including us. You don't see this kind of service in every establishment and it's nice. My husband loved their coconut stout beer. Thank you for providing a welcoming and fun atmosphere with delicious food. We will be coming back! 😁😁
