Review Astoria Bagel Shop - Astoria

Michael Motzny
The Astoria Bagel shop located on Ditmars Blvd is a small and a bit of a secret to those that live in the area. A local who I spoke to side these were among the best in the city. The Bagels were as good, if not better than the others I have had previously. The shop had several baked goods such as baguettes, breads, and a variety of cream cheeses. There are several coolers with different beverages for the morning or anytime during the day. The staff is efficient and customer oriented, despite the line that forms in the morning. Most of the morning, the bagels are fresh out of the oven and do not need toasting. The one caveat I would give is that the coffee is pretty basic. It gets the job done but it is not a for the coffee snob. I was just fine with it. Side note: They put a lot of cream on them. Ask for "easy on the cream cheese" if you do not want a heavy amount.

In Astoria for work. I saw a bagel shop and decided to stop. Glad I did. Exceptional bagels. So good I went back to bring some home to NJ. I love bagels and have many from numerous places. These are absolutely amazing.

Love this place. It’s hidden gem with the best bagels on Ditmars.

Underratedly delicious bagels. Chewy inside and perfectly crisp on the outside. Definitely made right. Friendly and fast staff. Go here and you won’t be disappointed!

Not only the best bagel in Astoria by a country mile, also one of the best bagels in the city

Hands down the best bagel & spread in Astoria/LIC. Vastly superior to the busy place on 23rd Ave. Crispy, light and not too doughy -- don't even think about toasting this bad boy. I want to keep it a secret but they need support. Go here!!!

Best bagels in Astoria. The place is bare bones and super old school, so you know the bagels are excellent. Try them out and see for yourself. Let's support our local businesses.

As a former resident of Astoria -- This is by far not only the best bagel place in Queens -- but the entire City of NY -- I have driven from Canada and back just to eat these -- I haven't been back since 2019 -- but this is the first place i'm going as soon as I set foot in the city --

I've lived in NYC for 14 years. I've eaten a lot of good bagels. While a lot of bagel places have slowly changed their ways, Astoria Bagel Shop is doing things the old school way. No corners are cut. Every bagel has the perfect ratio of crisp to bite. The owner is there every day, working hard, making sure you're getting an awesome bagel. The staff are great. Get these bagels. They're amazing.

As a native New Yorker, to me, this is one of the best bagel shops around. The bagels have that nice bite on the outside and are doughy on the inside. It’s what I think of when people say “New York has the best bagels”, and the quality is what I judge other bagel shops against. Edit: This place is expensive. $15 for a bagel with vegetable cream cheese, small coffee and a Snapple. It is the best bagel shop in the neighborhood, but it’s needlessly more expensive than any other place.

This is one of (if not) THE oldest bagel places in Astoria. I used to get my morning bagels here in the mid-90s before jumping on the train to go to high school. The interior is spartan and hasn't changed in three decades, but the bagels are still great. Don't expect wifi, ample seating, or a carefully curated Spotify playlist painstakingly put together by the hip young people with tattoos and nose rings on order duties. This place is no frills but still very good at what it does. Making amazing bagels. Payment remains CASH ONLY and they're closed by 4pm. If you go early in the morning on weekdays, you'll be waiting in line with neighborhood blue collar folks and budget conscious teens on their way to work and school respectively. It's the kind of place I grew up with and still like to go to, despite some of the fancier bagel places that have popped up nearby. I'm deducting one star for the owner's grumpy attitude and their inability to change with the times on a couple fronts. I'd be a daily supporter of this place if they somehow figured out how to make egg sandwiches alongside their bagels. If a guy in a cart on a street corner can do it, these guys can figure it out, but they're not willing to, for whatever reason. That and the cash only thing is an inconvenience when I'm low on greenbacks and need to hit an ATM. At that point, if I go across the street to the bodega's ATM, I'm gonna get hit with the 2.99 fee which negates any cost savings I was hoping to get by coming to the "older" bagel place. If I choose to walk 1.5 blocks to my bank on 31 st to avoid the fee, I might as well walk to NYC Coffee & Bagel house and get proper eggs with my bagel. As it stands I only come here when I'm not getting eggs for breakfast, which is pretty infrequent, but I realize this is my specific scenario. Otherwise, everything that Astoria Bagels offers for consumption is excellent 👌.
