Don't judge the book by its cover! Outside, meh! Inside small, cozy! But the food - yup hit the bullseye! We are local and have dropped in a few times now and have always enjoyed our experience.
A Seafood Emporium & Bar. Off the Hook is where you go in Astoria when you are in the mood for the briny fruits of the sea. For landlubbers, there is skirt steak.
My spouse and I dropped in just before 10 P.M. yesterday for some seafood. We both chose the 11⁄2 pound lobster. The menu states that the lobster is steamed perfectly. Unfortunately, the kitchen grills the lobster after this perfect steaming. The extra grilling dried the flesh enough that it stuck to the shell.
If you should order lobster, instruct the waitperson that you only want the lobster steamed. You want the lobster meat to glide out easily and not adhere to the shell. Adherence to the exoskeleton means your crustacean is overcooked.
We also ordered New England clam chowder and crab bites. Both were fine. The accompaniments for the lobster main course were grilled corn on the cob, grilled potato slices with skin on, and grilled carrots. They were all nicely done. All had been steamed prior to grilling, as the lobster was.
My wife had the fresh ginger ale that is made in-house. I selected the pineapple mojito. The pineapple flavor is just a hint. It did not overpower the basic mojito flavors. I left half of the mojito until the ice had watered it down. That was bad oversight on my behalf. I enjoy a good mojito.
Despite the overdone lobster, I find much to celebrate about the presence of Off the Hook in Astoria.
This spot has a very unique but pleasantly delicious menu. Went for “seafood” brunch and mixed and matched items from their regular menu too. We were very satisfied with the selections and the pairing of seafood with traditional brunch items. The drinks were made well as the juices were fresh and flavorful. All our entrees came out hot and well seasoned. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the leftovers as the portion sizes are great. Our entrees: lobster grits , lobster mac , jerk chicken , steak. Our drinks : mimosas (passionfruit, lychee).

Absolutely delicious dinner! The rosemary lemon drop martini was fantastic and so was the margarita! Can’t wait to go back!
Off the Hook Raw Bar & Grill is a larger than you expect restaurant. They have two outdoor areas and a large indoor area complete with a bar. I've visited three times and it never dissapoints. Mind you the first time it was 100 degrees outside and they had no AC. Sure we were sliding off the chairs like melted butter off a grill. but the food was still delicious. This time the weather was just right. Its an eclectic restaurant with touches of Latin and Asian flavors We went there specifically for the lobster because my son wanted to try lobster andcalamari for the first time but they had sold out (bummer for us). We did get fresh fried calamari, which my son liked! Yay! For dinner I opted for the red snapper. It was perfectly seasoned, crispy and moist. It came with tostones which were not overly dried like most tostones tend to be. My hubby had the curry fish fillet which was very aromatic and delicious. Our nephew asked for the shrimp Morongo which he devoured and our son had the steak. The meat was juicy and perfectly cooked. It was accompanied by crispy fries. The only thing we didn't like was their lemonade. Too tart for my son and we had to send it back for more sweetener. Other than this the service was courteous and friendly. When my darling hubby spilled marinara sauce all over me the waitress was right there to help out. We will definitely be back for the lobster, but will call in advance.
Great staff and wonderful spot. Went there for happy hour and the staff and food were amazing. Great prices for Astoria.
Came here with my grandmother for some delicious sea food. She’s a picky eater but she loved her shrimp po boy sandwich. Their Cajun sauce was delicious. We order it on the side since she does not like hot sauce but it wasn’t hot. It was perfect we used the sauce to dip our chips. I had the lobster roll warmed and it was delicious! Fresh lobster and crispy bread. Their margaritas are decent.
You cannot beat their happy hour menu especially the $1 oysters. Oysters are great quality. A few had shells in them but overall great oysters. Had a few other items from their menu (calamari and Ahi Tuna Nachos) which were delicious.
