Review Maizal Restaurant & Tequila Bar - Astoria

Great atmosphere and restaurant for groups! It is a little expensive in my opinion but the food is really good and so is the venue! I would definitely recommend this to people who like trendy but not extremely flashy vibes. Also to groups! When: Sunday (3/1/20) @ 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm Who: Family group of 10 Food: Wow the food was great! I had the Enchiladas Rojas O Verdes with Beef and it was all around great. My father had an omelette with chorizo and said it was a little too salty but that is something that could be to taste. Food was very nicely plated and presented as well! Service: The staff was very accommodating of us! We did stay a lot longer than a usual table but there was no wait or confliction with it. The staff was also sweet and took a group picture for us! Atmosphere: Very trendy but also classy! Our party of 10 was next to another large group but there was a ton of room and absolutely no problem.

Good food, good service, really cute restaurant...would be good for any occasion. Loved their stuffed plantain, so delicious. Nachos were ok, could've used more flavor. Overall, good experience.

Nice open air seating for in good weather. Happy hour prices are fair but not great. Food is ok but nothing special.

Had a mostly positive experience. Table was a bit wobbly. Service was good. Food was good, but a tad pricey for quality and portion size. Advertised happy hour special was alright deal, but the fine print of it was it was only for the front bar area, not for larger back area. Not a lot of room in the front bar area, pretty cramped. I'd probably go back still.

Great neighborhood place! There is always a crowd eating here, but there is never a wait! I have been here a handful of times and have never been disappointed. The margarita menu is excellent and the food is even better. Additionally, the staff are welcoming, warm people and efficient workers. I will definitely be back in the near future.

This is really a great place. The food is phenomenal, and one thing that you must try is the guacamole - guacamole and ingredients mashed with a pistil and stone bowl, with amazing corn chips, and then anything on the menu will be awesome. And then, you can go insane trying to select from awesome mezcals and sipping tequilas - or should I try one of the awesome tequila cocktails??? Just go here, it's good for you.

The food was amazing, the ambiance was perfect as well as the music. A lot of people came to celebrate their birthday. Not too expensive but beautifully decorated. You can dress up and not feel out of place. Staff really polite and helpful. Definitely coming back! And the stuffed plantain made my night.

I must say that I absolutely adore this place. The food is great. I've been there for brunch and I loved everything I ordered. The art work and decor is beautiful. The ambiance is perfect. Music is soft and I can still carry a conversation with my girlfriend. I wish this place was a little closer to my home, but if you are in the area, definitely give this place a shot.

Solid tequila drinks, flavorful and unfussy food, huge space with plenty of room for events as well as everyday dinner or brunch. Service was not quick but very responsive, you could spend as much or as little time here as you'd like, though slightly pricey for the quality.

After a long day of working at the computer I needed food asap. Maizal appeared on my path so in I went. Sunday is happy hour all day at the bar so I got a jalapeno margarita which was delicious, not too sweet and a nice level of spice. There was a tuna taco special which was one of the most delicious things I've had in some time. The tuna looked to be sushi grade and was free from heavy fat so melted in my mouth. There was a pepper crust and it was lightly seared. It came with rice and beans which were underwhelming but easily saved with the addition of a little of their jalapeno, cilantro lime mayo. That stuff was like crack! I could have drunk a vat full. Overall, a little pricey but delicious and fresh so well worth it.

I recently had my bridal shower here and I have to say the party turned out great from the service to the food. I did a lot of research to find a restaurant in the neighborhood (Astoria) to host my bridal shower. I was looking for a brunch/lunch with unlimited drinks of some sort for about 35 people for a 3 hour party. Of all the places I contacted, Maizal had the most variety of dishes offering about 10 entrees (with different variations within each) and the best prices. The options for gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan was plentiful. Also, the prices were about $5-$8 per-person lower than other places I had contacted for a similar type of menu. For the initial booking and planning most of the communication was done via e-mail with one of the Managers, Leo. He was very responsive via e-mail and answered any questions we had. I put down a deposit in person, and at the same time Leo showed me around the restaurant / party area. It terms of the actual party—everything went really incredibly smooth. One of the head servers introduced herself to me in the beginning and continued to communicate with me about timing of things throughout the party (i.e. when to start the 2hr unlimited drinks as some people were coming in late, when to cut the cake etc.) All of the other servers working the party (I believe there were about 3 or 4) were very helpful and attentive. As for the food and drinks—I only received positive feedback on the food. Like I said previously there were so many options to pick from. Also, they kept the drinks flowing for the full 2 hours. The servers came around with pitchers of margaritas, sangria, etc and were consistently refilling glasses, there was never an empty glass on the table! The only con I would call out is that the party area (although mostly private) is in a an open area so there is some noise from the restaurant. This only became an issue when we were trying to do one of those Bridal Shower “he said/she said” games and it was really hard to hear the people talking. However, I had known there would be other tables around and it really only became an issue when we were trying to have everyone at our party hear us. Overall I would definitely recommend Maizal for a Bridal Shower, Baby shower, milestone birthday party etc. We had a party of 35, and I know the are able to accommodate less/more than that. Thank you again to Leo and the Team at Maizal for helping me have such a memorable party 😊

The quesadillas are amazing! And don't miss happy hour! All day Sunday through Thursday! Note they are closed Monday but you have every other day of the week to enjoy their freshly made chips and salsa! Reminds me of my favorite places in Texas!

I had a truly wonderful experience at Maizal, and would recommend it to anyone. The food was delicious - I had the Guac and steak tacos and they were both divine. More importantly the service and whole feel of the place is like an extension of a family kitchen (which is fitting as it's run by local brothers). We felt welcomed, full and very happy we made the decision to try Maizal and will be back. Thanks Leo and team for your hospitality.

Food was delicious and authentic. Their guacamole was so good and the salad dressing was addictive. Definitely try the jalapeño margaritas if you like a bit of a kick in your drinks..
