My family & I found our new go-to Italian spot! Not sure which is better- the food or the service but they are both exceptional! Our waiter sergio was very friendly and attentive as were the owner’s sons. I also love that they have a different take on Italian dishes but will also make a classic dish upon request. The cherry on top is the tons of vegan options! Thanks again & see you soon(:
Definitely coming back and trying more sandwiches off the menu. My sister and I really enjoyed them. Will post those too because all my friends kept saying they wish they could of tried them when they saw them.
Giuseppe and Ornella are Ornella Trattoria Italiana. They are such wonderful, caring and lovely people to be around.
They care about their clients for sure. I tried this trattoria one night with 3 friends and the thing we loved the most was the hospitality!
The place and the food is rustic, Italian with an American influence.
We basically tried almost all the pasta on the menu hahaha
My favourite was “pizzoccheri” and “pasta di castagne”.
Something unique and new to me was “spaghetti all’aglio nero” , very different and you definitely cannot taste the garlic.
I love the fact that Giuseppe, one of the owner is very creative: the restaurant has Italian style street signs inside with his sons names, the outside sign was designed by him, the menu is hadwritten by him and once you get to talk to him and his wife you understand how much passion and love they put into this place and their family. 3 of their 4 sons work at the restaurant, i like the family owned spots.
You should try Ornella Trattoria for a one of a kind experience but don’t forget to interact with the owners, they will probably make your night!
The food was amazing. Duck meatballs, clams in garlic and oregano , gorgonzola gnocchi. The staff made it an overall perfect dining experience. You have to go.
Finally got to try this place after following their Instagram for months. I had the sugar daddy chicken sandwich and it was just fantastic. They have an extensive menu of Italian food and some great chicken sandwich options. Looking forward to trying as much as humanly possible.
This places chicken sandwich takeout menu is AMAZING. I got the Joey Zasa and it was by far the best fried chicken sandwich I've had. . . Ever. Chicken was crispy but juicy. The bacon was flavorful and the sauce was perfect. The staff there was very polite. Can't wait to go back and try another sandwich, or maybe some of their great looking Italian dishes. Thanks guys!
They have $10 pasta on Thursdays. I tried Carbonara, but it was too salty. Bacon makes it even saltier so I ended up avoiding all the bacons at the end. That could happen anywhere so I’d like to go back to try something else :)
Found this place on maps looking for a good italian spot and very happy about it! We had calamari (pic), stracciatella soup, very tasty and three kinds of pasta: Garganelli with gorgonzola pistachio and pancetta, Spaghetti Carbonara (no cream, just eggs and cheese, which is good), Chestnut homemade pasta.
A very nice discovery!
This place has the best sandwiches in Astoria, check out the instagram account and you'll be drooling in 30 seconds... I tried the Fratelli Polli (fried chicken sandwich) and OMG! I'm coming back tomorrow to try new sandwiches... Support small businesses! This place is a dream
I had a serious issue eating here. The issue is that my stomach did not fit all of the delicious food but I wanted to keep eating it. Awesome find in Astoria and the owner is very personable. If you have a date coming up take them here and they will love you.
Risotto di Mare
And mushroom risotto
I went with my friends past Saturday to celebrate my birthday. We needed a table for 15 and it was the only place in the area that gave me a quick answer and accommodated us without issues (most places wanted me to choose a fixed menu or ask my guest to get at least two dishes per person).
The service was great, they helped me with everything I asked for. The food was served fast and everyone enjoyed it very much. An amazing place to have a delicious meal and to support the local businesses in Astoria. I can't wait to be back!
So good! I went there for the first time last night and had such a nice time. They have so many different types of fresh pasta (many of which are vegetarian!) and everything we had was fantastic. There were many pasta dishes I had never heard of before on the menu which was really exciting. The portion sizes are massive and I write this as I'm happily eating my leftovers for lunch. The staff was really nice and the vibe was great. Highly recommend!!
If you are in Queens, New York, GO HERE! Located conveniently at the Astoria Ditmars subway stop, Ornella Trattoria is truly an authentic Italian restaurant.
Holy cannoli, this restaurant is exceptional! If you live in Astoria I really don't know why you would eat anywhere else, I could go here every day. The carbonara, bolognese, and veal marsala are my favorites, but everything we had here has been just outstanding. Family run business with a cute space and great service. Love love love Ornella's.
My delivery order came pretty quickly considering my distance from them. Everything was great. More importantly, had ordered the chocolate mousse cake for dessert and I'm assuming they didn't have it available tonight, because they gave me a slice of both cheesecake AND pistachio cake. Two slices of cake for the price of one was at even a small loss for them, but also a nice gesture on their part that they didn't have to do (especially during this tough time for restaurants). So wanted to highlight that. Thanks Ornella!
No cap, I traveled all the way from the BX just for this bc the pics on their gram looked solid. Did not disappoint.
I bought about $70 worth of food all for myself and everything was a hit.
No this is a not a paid review I actually did this. Eat here. Family owned all day.
