I love Don's restaurant and go often. Best restaurant in Arnold by a long shot, especially if you like a protein-based menu. For apps, just get the grilled artichokes. Don also has specials every night. I'll attach some photos of dishes my wife and I have enjoyed since his opening last summer.
New owners this year. Decent restaurant, a better replacement from the original from ~9 years ago when the menu was mostly grilled meat dishes. More varieties in the menu as not all of us are meat lovers. I think the last owner changed the menu to be more varied but we didn't try since our last visits about 9 years ago. This review is for the new establishment.
We ordered 4 mains (seafood pasta, lamb shank, rib eye, and duck breast), crab dip appetizer and salad.
Crab dip is good to share for 4. All mains except the duck breast are good. Duck is overcooked and under sauced IMO. More on this.
Duck IMO should be cooked like a red meat steak and not like a chicken where more cooking is needed to kill all the bad stuffs from chicken farming practice in this country.
The duck I had was cooked more like a chicken: well done. Color is like that of chicken dark meat. Good, but could be better as the meat is dry and tough just like a well done steak (which some of you preferred so highly subjective review here). I was expecting medium rare and lathered with a sweet/savory sauce which might be there but too little to notice with my dish. Portion is on the small side, about 6 ounces in my estimation so be prepared to dip into your companions dishes assuming they don't all order duck.
High marks for the free bread as this is a reliable indicator of how a serious the chef is to good food. The bread was warm and fresh, and the olive oil/balsamic vinegar is of good quality done with a glazed (more gooey) balsamic. 5 stars here.
Will come back for sure. Hopefully the chef will do something about the duck breast
So we went to Angels Camp for my Birthday, and my nephew wanted to take us to dinner and said he loved this place...It was probably one of the most amazing meals I have ever had... The restuarant is quaint, but comfortable... The food was outstanding... From the fresh bread, to the appetizers to the entree's, Fresh and flavorful.... Served beautifully... The wine was outstanding - wines I never heard of, but local. You would have thought you were in Palo Alto or San Francisco. I will defenitely be going back again!!
Food was excellent along with the service. I will definitely come back again. I highly recommend this restaurant.
I finally got around to having dinner at this establishment. Excellent wine choices and the dinner menu is definitely on point. Don, Brandon, Steve and Krystal are extremely friendly and the dinner came out super fast and in good succession. The dessert menu, it is extremely hard to make a choice, they are all handmade and conjured up personally by the establishment.

A quaint little restaurant with an upscale feel, Dogwood is one of those surprises you wouldn’t expect in a small foothill town like Arnold. With a limited gourmet menu, and wonderful nightly specials, this place definitely feels like you’re getting more of a big city experience as far as the entrees go than the small restaurant it is. I had the scallops which were amazing, but at $36 for this entree, it needed to be. Delicious fresh bread and butter were served along side the dinner, and arrived to our table fresh and right out of the oven. We finished our dinner with a salted Carmel chocolate cake which was to die for. I don’t normally care that much for any type cake, but this slice, which was chocolate Carmel salted heaven, was the best I’d ever had! I highly recommend this restaurant.
Sad to be down to 8 tables and takeout, but SO glad they are still alive. Dinner was awesome! Specials included halibut and smoked ribs.
My wife and I have dined here more than a dozen times in the last year. This is truly the best high end restaurant around. The standard menu is very nice. My favorites are the Ancho Chili and Coffee rubbed Flat Iron Steak (no, it doesn't taste like coffee) and the Clark's Chicken breast. The breast is stuffed with a blue cheese mousse, caramelized shallot-whipped potatoes and Frank's Red Hot butter sauce. My wife adores the Ribeye steak. The weekly specials add a variety to the standard menu. This is also the only place around that offers really great fish and seafood specials.
Due to trouble with our car battery, my wife and I had to find a place for dinner within walking distance of our inn, and Dogwood was close. They are a reservations-only restaurant but they made a space for us, anyway. The restaurant was cozy and beautiful, our table with right by the window with a nice view of the snow outside, the service was prompt and exceptional, and the food delicious. We had the calamari, steak and chicken, cooked and seasoned to perfection. This place was a pleasant end to a hard day of skiing and car stress.
AMAZING NY STEAK!! All around excellent food. Great atmosphere too. I dined at the bar and got a great dinner show watching all the delicious food go from grill to the plate. Really good presentation. I wish I could remember staffs name. Don (Tom) master chef ( sorry, I'm old) and the cutest🥰 waitress. Service was outstanding!! I'm actually going again Tuesday, the 20th for their Porterhouse steak. Oh, and the carrot cake.........😋!! If you're in Arnold, you HAVE to stop in. If you don't, you're missing out on a real dining experience. I'm going to be a regular, count on it!!
Great food and very friendly Staff. We brought our two dogs and the Staff set up a nice table for us on the Patio and brought a bowl of water for the dogs.
Megan our waitress Was amazing. Definitely 5 Stars for the Total experience.
Good food, comfortable atmosphere, and friendly staff!
I had the ribeye special and it was excellent. Our only issue was that they had "just run out" of other entrees we ordered so we had to re-order. That wouldn't have been frustrating if we weren't the first party seated that evening.
Went to dinner here the other night. We were seated outside which was wonderful because it was such a beautiful night. Our server (can't remember her name) was AWESOME! She read us the specials and they all sounded great. I think we all ordered a special. Dinner came and it was DELICIOUS!! No complaints about anything. Well worth a trip here to eat. Will definitely be coming back for sure!! 👍
Pricey, but ohhhhh so good!!! They really know how to cook a steak, and one even wore a Dino Pajama costume. Super friendly and courteous folks. Always call in to ask about their menu as it changed daily!!! So beware what you see online might not be correct.
Six of us shared a table on the deck. We loved everything about Dogwood! Our server was gracious and attentive, her assistant also did her job with a smile and thoughtfulness. The roasted pear salad was delicious and the short ribs with garlic mashed was fork tender! We had coffee and a lemon dessert with berry drizzle that was a work of art in addition to being scrumptious. All in all a marvelous evening! Thanks Dogwood!
Great food, wonderful atmosphere and the steaks and deserts were fantastic. Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. Will go back soon. Celebrating my wife's birthday there tonight was a perfect evening , the staff is warm and very friendly.
