Reviews Maria Elena's Restaurant

Maria's is located in Alviso, which to most people looks like rundown town, with abandoned vehicles, graffiti & dilapidated houses. However once you enter Maria's it has a very welcoming feel. In the Bay Area, it's rare to find places where the patrons are regulars & the staff is friendly (there's a difference between professional & friendly).

I don't think there was any items we ordered that was bad, so I would suggest trying what sounds best. Mind you, this being Mexican, the dishes are very filling for the prices.

Unfortunately Maria's no longer has a liquor license, so if you're there for the pub-like ambiance it once had, that's not true any more.

If you are fan of Mexican food, don't ever miss it. Their food taste beats any other Mexican food in the neighborhood, what's best is that they have a veggie menu and it makes so easy to order, regarding taste, you should go and experience by your selves, salsa taste is amazing

Been going to Maria Elena's since 2010 for lunch, mostly with colleagues. It's super busy and totally packed during lunch hours. Their salsa is the best I have had. I love their chicken fajitas and always tasted good. Only problem was that it would always take time and end up eating chips with salsa.

Staff is friendly but service is a bit slow. They have a good decent lunch menu, never tried it though..

Best Mexican Food. This is my favorite Mexican Restaurant in the Bay Area. It is a bit of a hole in the wall. Chips and salsa always great. They have a wonderful Vegetarian menu, which is not common in a Mex place. Servers are friendly. Atmosphere is casual. They have Happy Hour too. This place is hard to get into at lunch because it is always packed. Dinner is easier. This is a great place to go if you are not looking to spend too much and just want a casual but great meal.

I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. This is the best authentic Mexican food place in the area. The salsa is spicy, everything is wonderfully seasoned and super tasty. Hugo and Brittany really made our visit wonderful. It's best to go a little later in the evening during the summer so it's cooler, but it's still a fantastic place!

Got the fish tacos! It's crowded for lunch during work days so definitely get there early! Really busy but worth the wait.

Top Mexican restaurant in North San Jose area! Every item I’ve had here has been excellent, including tacos, enchiladas, and chicken mole. The chips and salsa are also quite good.

Its one of my favorite Mexican place located in a calm, oldtime neighborhood of Alviso. Usually weekdays are crowded. Lot of food options for vegetarians too. They give a big bowl of tortilla chips and salsa dip as soon as we go. Good place for a small group.

Great ambience and very friendly service. Food was solid but I’ve definitely had better Mexican food even in the South Bay alone. Definitely worth a visit. Great for a smaller group of people.
