Their wings are some of the best that I have ever had! So are their cheesesteaks! There hasn't been anything in that menu that isn't amazing! It does get packed at times, but it is an awesome place to eat! Almost every time I'm in Altoona, I'll be found here at some point! Plus you can get a nice brew while you're there!
I was in Altoona PA with my husband for his work. I asked the worker at the front desk of the Clarion motel " What would be the one best place that is a hole in the wall to tell people to eat at that aren't from around here?" ( We're from Southeastern Ohio) She replied " Mmm I know ! Tim's American Cafe!" .. then gave me the address.. I am SO glad she recommended it! It was the best diamond in the rough to find! The steaks are huge and delicious the hoagie was great to my husband said.. we both truly highly recommend this place to eat at.. it looks like a house but is a bar and restaurant.. a very good one!
Food is consistently good, and portion sizes are massive, but I hate eating there. Too many tables stuffed into too small a space. If you are the least bit claustrophobic or like a little bit of elbow room get takeout.
First time at Tim's, my boyfriend and I ordered three different meals to try them all out. We loved everything. Huge portions and you definitely won't leave hungry! Also very inexpensive. Their wings were amazing! They actually had a flavor to them that you could taste through the hot sauce unlike most places.
Great Place. Was here about a month ago, the food was awesome. Very large portions as well. It is truly a hidden treasure. Hope to return there again soon.
One of my top five places for lunch in Altoona. Love their steak salad! Also have a great cheese steak and fresh cut fries.
Manifique!. Great food and extraordinary portions for a low, low price. The BEST roquefort dressing in Blair County, bar none. The only negative perhaps ... it is neighborhood, with a CAPITAL N! You will have a bunch of "new best friends" upon leaving here, i.e. those who sat at your elbow and helped critique your food and theirs. It is mega-close. I love that! The missus hates that! Menu is limited. Service is unrefined and outstanding. Put simply, you can't be missed or forgotten here. ALWAYS take something home from Tim's. The best!

Truly a diamond in the rough. Tim's is a gem in Altoona. Located on a side street a little out of the way, it's nothing spectacular to look at inside or out. The dining area is cramped and sometimes you have to wait for a table because there are so few of them, but the wait is worth it. The food is just plain good. The servings are HUGE and most could be split in two to either share or take home for another meal. Tim's has excellent iced tea (which is sometimes hard to find at restaurants) and fresh cut fries. The specials change daily and so do the soups. We've never been disappointed with the food or the service at Tim's. It's worth the wait.
An Island of Goodness in a Sea of Mediocrity. This place is a dive in the best sense of the word. The outside and inside are not up to contemporary standards. But that is a bit like being fussy about the paint on a bedroom wall. You can't see when you sleep. Well same applies here, don't let appearance fool you. Friday night is the best night in my opinion. Seafood is limited by fresh. Haddock is prepared like someone in the kitchen knows what they are doing and cares. As a former Marylander, the crab cake is among the best, full of crab meat and well seasoned. Salads are a meal in them selves, seafood soup are great, desserts are not up to the rest of the food. You will be treated to good food and well feed for a little money. Not a show place but the place to show people where good food is in the Culinary Ghetto of America.
Afternoon Mid-Week Lunch. Tim's place was starting to fill up around 11:45am on Wednesday morning this week. I made it just in time to get one of the last few tables for two.The dinning area is small, slightly cramped, but comfortable enough. The service was great, friendly and quick. I had a drink within minutes and my meal in 20 minutes. It might seem like thats a long time to wait for a Reuben, but I was behind a few tables orders when I got in. The staff refilled my drink right as it was emptied, without me having to ask. I left around 12:15 after filling my stomach. It was a great stop and I would visit again.
WOW!!. I finally ate here and I can say their legendary portion sizes are for real! An order of fries the size of my head! Wow! Amazing sandwiches and salads! You will not be able to finish everything. I am a big eater and could not. It's more than worth looking for this just slightly out of the way place.
Good home cooked food! Passing through PA and stopped in Altoona very hungry..Ordered to-go plates from their daily specials..Ready in 20 mins! Both meals were yummy and large enough portions for leftovers!
A great place to go, portions are huge and definitely get your money's worth. My classmates ate here a lot during college. I recommend their fries and chicken tenders.
Everything is always good. Great salads and subs and homemade dinners! You get generous portions also. Friendly staff.

Never disappointed!! If you have never tried their food the wings and salads are famously good can't go wrong there. My personal favorite is the sirloin medallion dinner. Best steak in Altoona always cooked perfectly and a very generous portion!!

We love Tim's. If you want good bar food at reasonable price and huge portions this is your place. The steak subs are the best. If you like spicy add the Italian house made peppers. But that's not all. They have a rotating chalkboard of dinner selections. Usually a steak a fish a pasta and a couple of double up. Like they may have a hadock and crab cakes. Ever thing is good. Then finish with a piece of cake or pie. My wife says the coconut cream is to die for
I can't wait until they have sit-down dining again. I miss this place. The food is great the portions are huge. Price is very reasonable. The restaurant itself is kind of funky but that's okay
