La Calavera

We were looking for a place to eat supper. We decided to try La Calavera. All of the tables are outside so dress for the weather. The menu is small but the taste of food is big. We were looking at the menu and one of the customers told us that all of the food is good. We ordered but since the food is home made and also first come first serve, be prepared for a short wait. The food was great and worth the wait!

Everything about this place was great and they truly deserve a higher overall rating. The staff was super nice as soon as we arrived they walked us through the menu. My party got the chulupas, tacos, tostadas and cheesy fries, all of which were great! We also got chips and salsa and they let us sample a few different ones including their salsa Verde and Chipotle with no extra charge. Cannot recommend enough!

Think "permanent food truck" with a Dia de los Muertos themed eclectic outdoor seating area. Menu is simple, but ranks among the best Mexican food I've had anywhere. I had the flat enchiladas, half red, half green. Not super spicy, but the flavors are spot on! The whole family agreed. We're staying in Ft. Davis, but the next day my teenagers (foodies-in-training) asked if we could drive back to Alpine to eat here again for lunch. :-)

Best fish tacos, at a most unexpected location! We stopped at La Calavera on our way to Big Bend, and what a great surprise! It was a beautiful day to sit on their patio. This is not a dine in restaurant - it is kind of like a food truck, but it is in a permanent location just off the main drag. I 100% recommend stopping here! Great service, the best food, and a quaint dining experience.

Delicious! Outdoor seating only, some with canopy covering. You have to try their chips and salsa! I still get hungry for it but its a 6 hour drive...😞. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because they are slow but that's also why the food is so yummy and fresh...because they make everything after you order it..

Great food and friendly people. It is a super relaxed atmosphere where you can sit and chat with friends while waiting for the freshly made food. We just happened to drive by and see it, but it is easy to miss, so keep your eyes open for it. If we lived here, we would make this a regular haunt. We will definitely stop by whenever we visit Big Bend.
