The White Star Hotel Albany

This place is currently undergoing new management and we assume they are running this place down a bit on purpose awaiting the refurbishment in the next couple of months, which will be amazing. OK the dining review, Are we in a food court? Why does the water taste worse then the tap water from my motel. Why are there no vegetarian dishes? Oh wait.... There is one.. I ended up getting the chicken burger, which was pretty decent, partner got the beef burger. We both would have preferred a vege option. Hopefully new owners read this :) Decor is terrible, but again the refurbishment will fix this. Beer list is dreadful, but again new owners will change this. I absolutely cannot wait to come back and review once it's had its makeover.

We ordered the prawn and crab linguine ($29) along with the grilled chicken burger and chips ($26) for lunch. We waited almost an hour for the food and the restaurant was not super busy when we attended. When the food came out we were a bit disappointed as the chicken burger was quite small with just a handful of chips and the linguine only had 3 prawns in it. The food tasted fine but we had hoped the serving size would have been more consistent with what you expect for a pub lunch, especially for the price.

Came here for my friends birthday after coming to Albany for work. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the patients of the staff with my friends rowdy table. I had the steak with broccolini and mash with garlic sauce on the side, all of which was cooked perfectly. I also got a creme brûlée for desert and it was delicious! Also matched one of the waitresses on tinder after the meal so that was fun and made the trip that little bit more enjoyable.

I know there is new owners now so an adjustment period is expected, but it's been terrible so far. Tiny menu, and over priced. $28 for the fish, tiny pieces not worth the price. The salad is only lettuce and tomato. No onion, no carrot. JUST TWO INGREDIENTS. And the chips average. The wait was an hour, for very average food. This is ok if you are being advised of it, and apologised to however nothing was said. If you are going to start doing ordering at the bar, you need table numbers as a way for people to order cocktails etc and not be stuck waiting for them at the bar.

Was one of my favourite places to have a meal. Understand new management has something in mind for near future but dissapointing to be charged same money for limited menu and drinks options, no atmosphere, no personal service and a variety of dishes where nothing stood out other than the crab and prawn pasta which receives this 3 star rating. There was plenty of staff to be able to provide better service and cant be used as an excuse. For a Albany establishment, that became many people's go to, it's dissapointing and only hope the future draws us back, to this once stellar establishment/landmark. I like the concept of sourcing of local produce and a couple of vegetables options would be good.
